I was just listening to some Aerosmith live and Joe Perry was at his best, some of his live stuff is as good as I have ever heard from anyone. He has developed into a virtuoso in the last 30 years, I can remember cruising in old beat up Ford Mustang in High School listening to "Get your Wings" back in 1974 listening to Joe Perry and Steven Tyler belt out great stuff back then and they are still at it. Aerosmith was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame so I don't want you hear you youngsters bad mouthing the old musicians I like. Remember most of my bands are in the Rock n Roll Hall of fame and yours are not. So all the favoritism aside, I just want to put up a poll to see who you all like best.
Kirk Hammett, never without a grin or a curious thought, is the true Bay Area band-member. Born in the East Bay town of El Sobrante (also the birthplace to one Les Claypool), he gained an interest in music from his brother Rick's extensive record collection, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and UFO. It all led to him properly picking up the guitar when he was 15, his first being a wholly unglamorous Montgomery Ward catalog special accompanied by a shoe box with 4 inch speaker for an amp. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cut and pasted from your link, note that you must now vote for either Jimmy Page or Jimi Hendrix since your man loved them and learned to play by listening to them. I have always thought he was great also CR Man I wish I would have got a guitar when I was 12
Well this applies to me best, "Don't know, I grew up in the 80's" but from what I do know, I'd have to say Jimi Hendrix, I was listening to some of his stuff the other day, he was amazing.
Hendrix was so hot that they say even white girls openly lusted after him (in those days race mixing was a no no-1970), he was a natural and you really would have to see live video to see what they were talking about. Hey even the guys loved him and wanted to be like him, just ask the Beatles and the Stones, they were all wondering how he did it.
It says all time my man, we had to throw someone in for the kids Slash is good man, have you seen Velvet Revolver Slash's new band Slash kicks ass and Axel sucks, that is what that show is about.
Jimi Hendrix - no one has ever come close to touching him. If you have any doubt, see some of the live footage.
There was a blues guitarist named Luther Allison that was as good as Hendrix, do a search on his name and you will find that many folks thought Hendrix stole his style. http://www.windseek.com/query?se=w&q=Luther+Allison&submit.x=22&submit.y=12 But they were both fantastic, Allison was one of the all time greats, you would be lucky to even find his live stuff today.
Aaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeee!!! How can you vote for just one? What about Stevie Ray Vaughan? What about John Lee Hooker? What about Dick Dale? LOL! What about Chet Atkins?
Hey the poll only has options for 10 and I could not think of anymore, I am 46 here sometime this month Dreamy Dreamshop Check out this fantastic page on Luther Allison, what is even more fantastic is his live music, if you can get your hands on it you will know where hard rock got it's real start, right in his hands. http://www.island.net/~blues/luta.htm
I had to go with Hendrix. To me being the best is about more than just technical ability. Of course maybe that would warrant a vote for Tom Petty. Anyone that can fashion a career while only knowing three chords is pretty impresive
