Many people believe that growing traffic to your blog happens with hard work and slow but steady improvements. But there is another way. Two weeks ago, I participated in Mark Cuban's "Open Source Funding" initiative, which gave me 4,000 viewers overnight. So there is something to be said for using the elevator to go up. The way it works is that once you have momentum, it can snowball like crazy and it keeps going higher and higher. If you ever wondered how to really make it on digg for instance, that's the theory of the elevator. You start from a small group, build it up and let it explode for you. Then you get chain reaction. Enjoy!
Thanks for sharing your perspective. I also believe that you don't always have to work hard, but work smart. I'm off to Google.
Okay so I just read your article. You were in the right place at the right time. Good way to jump on an opportunity. Congrats to you!
Well, there is another post to write which deals with how you create those opportunities. Some people are just better than others at anticipating, or as they say, "make their own luck". I wished more people would share.
That is a very true statement you've made there. You definitely have your wits about you. You will continue to do well with such a positive attitude. Much success to you!
Congrats! But no offense, can you also share with us your CTR from that 4,000 viewers? While I can assume that Digg members love to read interesting news, I am not sure if they also click ads.
Use tools like twitter and friendfeed, and use sites like reddit and mixx (rather than digg). They give you a better chance. But above all the content has to be good.
Oh, I have a really funny story that I'll write up soon... Of all those viewers (talking about the blog entry), because of the words I used in the title, Google AdSense was completely misled and printed ads about Thyssen Elevators. Surprinsingly, none of my readers clicked on those ads In a sense, that shows Google's stupidity at understanding the topic of a web page. We have made little progress in 10 years, their algorithm still seems to use a list of keywords and not much else.
Alain- That's a great job of jumping on a oppotunity. 4,000 visitors and not 1 Click? That's just wrong!!!!
O o 4000views not a single click wat a tragedy.. Get a cool thing on your blog and you get traffic... recently one blogger wrote something agains media in India, and became hero for next some days which brought a great traffic to his site ckunte.com Code (markup):
I agree that digg need network if you want to get traffic. No matter how good your article, without network, your article is disappear from the homepage within an hour
I think you don't have to be surprise if GA was misled, as they are just following your keywords that are taking them to. I would love to hear that story soon, but I will not laugh at it. I think there are good lessons to learn from it.
Sure, but that's my whole point. Yes, the words "stairs" and "elevator" were in the title. But the rest of the article had all kinds of keywords related to traffic, entrepreneurs, etc. Bottom line: for that entry, I killed Google AdSense and used Amazon. At least with Amazon I control what is displayed.
