As noted in another thread, I have three sites. Two are very high up on Yahoo's results for their primary keywords (2nd & 6th). The third is on Yahoo's 3rd page (it was 6th for a while, too.) All three sites are way, way down in google's results, like out of the top 1,000. I've done very little in the way of SEO for any of the sites (I'm working on that right now), but still.. It seems weird that I'd get such great results in Yahoo and absolutely nothing on Google.. Is Yahoo less influenced by SEO techniques (or the lack thereof)? Any thoughts?
You usually hear people say the opposite, http://www.beanstalk-inc.com/articles/seo/seo-for-yahoo.htm That Yahoo is more critical of on-page SEO when it comes to influencing rankings. Not that you should compare the two.. It seems that everybody is "doing the dance" with Google recently.
Actually I have managed the SEO for lots of sites (large and small) and what you're seeing is VERY typical. It is MUCH easier to rank well at Yahoo! IMO than Google.
i think google has launched caffeine and i don't think being respected by caffeine only needs SEO stuff !
So I'm not necessarily doing anything wrong (in Google's eyes) then? Like I said, I've done almost no SEO up until the last couple of days. So if I take care of some basic SEO (keywords in titles and h1 headings, good page structure, backlinks in articles etc..) then i should gradually start to rise in Google, right?
Get your site in order first... But what is really going to boost rankings the most is link building. If you're new to SEO and especially link building then I would recommend following Eric Ward on the web. He's probably the most reknowned link building expert in the US. His nickname is "LinkMoses" LOL. Here is a post that links a lot of his material on the web.
I usually find that domains with my target keyword are easier to rank in yahoo. With that said, get some link building started and you'll eventually show up in Google
