Hi there, I have great placement on search engines and some very targeted traffic, especially for the Canadian market. For example: On Yahoo: #2 "canada web design companies" On Google #1 "webmaster Canada" On MSN #2 "website design canada" But it's hard to convert into actual sales. Could that be because: - no clear pricing structure? - the design is not good enough? - no portfolio? - no specific sales strategy or promotion? I'm starving and need some work! Any feedback would be appreciated, any designers that would like to partner with me and maybe cooperate are welcome, especially if you can actually convert my traffic into sales... The site in question is anonsolutions (dot) com Cheers!
Hi, Think your pricing is a bit too steep. If you are just starting out, you need tons of testimonials as well as be able to showcase a portfolio over time. If you do not have the basic number of customers, there is nothing to showcase at all. Start small. Make the pricing lower. And also list your companies at places like GetaFreeLancer, RentaCoder, Scriptlance etc. Bid for projects. If you are in this for long term, building a reputation is important. Over time, then you can adjust your rates when people are impressed with the quality of your work.
What you could do is have a limited offer say like the first 10 people to buy get (item) for free. Also maybe invest in a copywriter to create you a better sales page, if you don't have one already. If your sales page is created right your conversions will increase, my webpage at the moment has about 60% conversion (not sales just opt-in) I haven't started the sales yet because I'm planning to do a launch. You could also just lower your pricing a little bit, and do some testing with different copywriting to see what catches your readers attention. -- Hamish
This has also be my experience -- the logical answer is that Canadians do not think of looking Canada-wide for web designers -- if I was in Toronto I would not put Canada but "Toronto" in my search; I live near Ottawa, so I would probably put "web-designers in Ottawa" in my google search; as for Yahoo and MSN, does anyone really use these engines...? Finally, you will notice that putting "in" in the search affects the listings (it is claimed that this shouldn't by Google, but in my experience it does). This means you have to optimize for everywhere in Canada with a population to be worth it, with and without "in", so you have a large amount of keyword combinations. On the other hand, why restrict yourself to Canada...?
I should qualify my post -- I am assuming that the issue is one of numbers; ie, you may be getting very targeted traffic, but are you getting a LOT of traffic? Perhaps focus on places like New York, Los Angeles, etc., or even London, etc. may help. Web design is a service that lends itself well to long-distance commuting and clients.
