My site bluesfear is pretty graphicly intense where just the layout images add up to about 70kb and is made up of about 25 smaller images (this does not include any content on the page), which brings most pages above the 100kb mark. I have been mulling over the idea of redoing the site to a lite version and i was wondering what impact if any that would have on SEO? can i expect to rank higher if my sites pages go from 100kb to 40kb? Any thought?
Don't know about SEO but user friendliness will definately improve if content placed in images, is replaced as text.
With a flash site that used to have very little html until recently texts but nevertheless has pagerank of 6, I'd say it doesn't matter that much, although cutting up an image into 25 smaller ones sounds a bit to fanatic to me... most people have broadband connections anyway these days.
I doubt you'll see any change in the SERPs by changing to a "lite" version - in my experience, images are considered content just as much as text. I've never heard anything about page size (KB) affecting the SERPs, either. If you decide to stay with images, however, you should make sure to include alt text with all of them - this will definitely help you in the SERPs. HTH, Sam
In my experience more text based sites do better, than the graphic intense sites. Content is absolutely necessary to get high ranking in search engines. A site full of graphics without any content will find hard to get high ranking in SERPs. Hint: Add more content (text) and less graphics, in that way there is a SEO advantage.
