I'm looking for a professional graphic designer to create (2) graphic table images for my website. I will provide you with all the relevant data needed to complete the tables content but I want a creative and unique look to it. We will be comparing the product I'm selling to two other products on the market, so its highly important to deliver the message to the end consumer on how good the product I'm selling is, compared to the others. This will have to be done on the graphic side of the project. But here are some examples of what I'm talking about: http://htc-phones.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/iphone-vs-droid.jpg http://www.bluepointsecurity.com/imgs/tableforAndroid2.jpg http://www.russellheimlich.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/android-comparison-chart.jpg http://www.bluepointsecurity.com/imgs/tableforAndroidOutlined.jpg http://www.droid-life.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/internal-droid-family-comparison.png http://seecsopenmobile.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/openmoko-comparison.jpg http://androinica-serve.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/android-radio-full.png http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/17/2010/06/500x_iPhone-versus-Android.jpg The project should be fairly straight forward and easy for an experienced designer. Please send me a PM if your interested, with your skype information, portfolio and price for (2) of these images.
I completed a draft graphic for this person, and sent it to them over Skype. They broke off communication right after. I made it clear that what I had sent was a basic draft, and that I needed their feedback on it. No communication, no feedback. It only needed a few tweaks and some polish. I don't think it's an issue of them stealing work, I placed a clear watermark on the graphic. Still, I suspect he/she is courting several designers at once, and has extremely high expectations for the pay they are offering. Which brings me to my next point: they offered $40 for 2 separate graphics. This is an extremely low-ball offer, and if they are failing to procure professional level work, it's hardly a surprise. I was willing to undertake it because the work involved (two tables comparing the features of 3 different products) didn't involve much creativity, and I could complete it quickly. Dude, if you're reading this, what exactly do you expect to get for $40? At that level, you are getting a professional with a few hours to kill, like me, or an inexperienced college student. Either way, we are going to treat you like what you are: a guy offering $40. You aren't going to get front burner service, or our best work. Take it or leave it, that's my review of this guy.
The work you provided me was a proof sample (watermarked) of a basic table. Yes, it did have the content but I felt as if it was put together within a couple of minutes. I personally do not have the time to talk and walk designers through each step of the process. I posted this thread with the hopes of finding a designer who would put a little more effort into the job. The job is simple and straight-forward with no surprises. I provide the content, you design the table to look similar to the examples I provided. The sample you provided was no where near the examples. So as the person paying for the service, I do have the right not to work with someone if I feel they are inexperienced. And people are more than welcome to compare our feedback to get a better idea of who is who.
Codexx, you try to ruin the rep of this guy because you provided poor quality samples? I want to report you, all of your posts are bad.
$40 buys 20 minutes work - that includes the negotiation, design, delivery, edits and final copy. If you feel the design is done in a couple of minutes it will be because too much of that 20 minutes was taken up by all the other steps. Perhaps you need to be more efficient in the other steps so that more of your $40 is spent on design and less on chatter.
ivkk hired me to make the first graphic. I can say it was a pleasure creating the artwork infographic for ivkk. A designer dreams of clients that are precise and clear with the data and style that is supplied to them. This is case with ivkk, great to deal with, hope to work again soon.
Some advice.... $40 buys 20 minutes, as Sarahk and I have said. Ivkk, you will not get professional level work for $40 anywhere in the world. Kindly pull your head out of the clouds. If you really are not willing to make an investment in your sites, why not just go to fiverr and take your chances? As a designer with several clients, I have to prioritize. You offered a very low price, and I suspected you of courting several designers at once, so I gave you an appropriate amount of time and energy. Trust me when I tell you that losing you as a potential client is no loss to me. The proof that I created for you was to demonstrate that I am capable of working in Illustrator and creating what you need. As a mockup, it was created in around 30 min. That's true. Part of the process is creating a second and third draft. That's part of the normal creation process. If you want a designer who can read your mind, you will have to wait a few more decades for that technology to be invented. In all seriousness, if you want a designer to take a project and run with it, you need to do these things: 1. Create a written project brief that includes all of the project details and lists your exact expectations. I'm not talking about a forum thread, here, or a conversation on Skype. I'm talking about a document that you write up in a word processing program before you even contact a designer. You need to create detailed instructions for the entire project. No designer, no matter their level of experience, can read your mind, and none of them wants to waste time trying to guess what you want. 2. Pay as % up front to secure the services of a single designer3. Pay as the designer hits milestones.4. Most importantly: be willing to pay a real amount if you want to be taken seriously.
