Hello, i have some questions about file formats. If i use illustrator, then are ai file and eps file same vector formats what i can change later or have one of them some limitations? I have read that jpg is good for websites, but arent png better? Png has transparent background if i remember correctly.
yes PNG is always better than all format but for web if you don't need transparency then always use jpg, it gives lower file size.
totally agree..png is a lot better but its a big file so you can use jpg and just make everything in hq
If you need to keep transparent backgrounds then yes, .png is the way to go. However, like others have said, the file size is bigger and transparent .png images are not supported by older versions of Internet Explorer. To answer your first question about .ai vs .eps formats, .ai can only be opened by Adobe Illustrator. If you are working with Illustrator, that is their native file format (just like .doc is Microsoft's native format for Word). If you think that someone without Illustrator will need to access/edit the file then use .eps as that is the generic vector format supported by many different software.
Thumbs up with this. They are both great but if you have not needed the transparent background jpg is preferable.
There are two main types of formats, Bitmaps and Vectors. Ai, Eps, Cdr, Svg are Vector Formats. This format is very flexible. You can make the graphic as large or small as you want without loosing any quality. These formats are best used for illustrations, Logos, Clipart, Icons, Labels, Packaging and anything else that's not a photo. jpg, png, gif, psd, tiff are Bitmap formats. They are basically photos. You cannot make them larger or smaller without loosing quality. Psd and tiff are large file formats usually without any compression and should not be used on the web. Usually you create your graphics as a Psd or tiff and than export and compress it to smaller formats like jpg, gif and png. Gif files are best used for photos with few colors and no gradients. They support transparency, but will give poor results for complex graphics. Jpg files will result on better quality if you don't use high compression. Stay around 80%. Jpg doesn't support transparency. Png files will give you the best picture quality with great colors, smooth gradients and perfect transparencies even for shadows. Use Png 24 format when exporting for web. You can create great web graphics using Illustrator, Photoshop and Fireworks. They all can export Png files.
