Hi. My website is 10 year old, and I am seeing how it has been losing pages per session during this time, from 4.50 in 2006 to the current 1.90. It is well positioned on Google SERPs (desktop and mobile) for specific keywords, and it is receiving thousands of sessions per day. However, currently users browse 1-2 pages and go away (Avg Session Duration = 01:30), and some years ago they spent 3-4 minutes to click from one page to another within the website. Reasons I can guess to explain this drop in the pages per session rate: - Users already know the website (bounce rate increased from 50% in 2006 to the current 72%) and they do not want to lose time browsing the pages. - Mobile devices: in 2006 no visitor came from mobiles, and currently 65% of them are mobile. I think now it is more difficult to "get lost" in the mobile version of the website than in the desktop one, since the mobile version do not show two columns and users do not see easily links to other pages (I placed them on the secondary column shown in the desktop version). I would like to see experiences from other users. How did you increase the pages/session rate? Thank you very much in advance.
The usefulness of a search engine depends on the relevance of the result set it gives back. While there may be millions of webpages that include a particular word or phrase, some pages may be more relevant, popular, or authoritative than others. Most search engines employ methods to rank the results to provide the "best" results first. How a search engine decides which pages are the best matches, and what order the results should be shown in, varies widely from one engine to another. The methods also change over time as Internet usage changes and new techniques evolve.
