GPS coordinates integrated into website

Anyone using GPS coordinates as a marketing advantage to draw people to a website? Certainly for some sites it's futile, but not for many.

A backpacker forum got me interested in GPS, so I bought a device.

And I noticed that Panoramio is popping up dots on Google Earth, because images can be mapped with GPS coordinates.

So not long ago, I started adding GPS coordinates to my site's hiking pages within my advice area.

And when I get time, I'm going to start listing GPS coordinates for some of the more interesting photos in my photo gallery.

Website or not, I've been behind on almost every technology since the electronic calculator, and won't be caught behind on the value of GPS.

Lately, I saw a small town forum that added a local sites of interest section where GPS could be added for restaurants or trails. It had a Google Earth icon added alongside with coded coordinates to pop-up the location on Google Earth.

In fact, I snagged the code and simplified it for the BIGFOOT page link in my signature. A ways down the page, you can see it. I listed the coordinates, but the additional coded icon farther down, allows people to just hop-on-over to Google Earth and see where its at.

While it might not work in the industry that I am in this is an awesome idea for many sites. That brings much more value to photos, hiking, etc. People will be able to see exactly what you did.

Broad use can be somewhat limited.

One aspect that won't work for me, that is already used in a limited fashion, is where businesses are located on a map. But that's mostly restricted to Google's one-box, etc..

What I don't understand, is why most retail businesses I see in a town, don't post an icon on their home page or contact page which automatically takes people to their location visually - GPS style.

For me, it won't work, because I go out to their homes to do pruning etc.. And I live in the country right now. But, when we move back in town after our place sells. I'm going to rig the GPS to our location on my home page and contact page
