Gov. Rod Blagojevich arrested on corruption charges

I've never liked the guy. He used to come to my old law firm, and the name partner used to drop his name in the "close personal friend" vein. I'm not surprised the Guv has been finally busted.

This, from the indictment itself (warning: PDF):

Bye bye, asshole. Enjoy the prison chow.

What a loser. I hope he gets a nice long prison term for trying to sell a Senate seat - and his other misdeeds. Pathetic.

Yep - and to do it so stupidly, knowing he was under the cloud of suspicion. I was waiting for this day. I smelled corruption the first day he came into our law firm. The guy is venal as they come, from what I can know (which is admittedly, nothing - so it was always just intuited).

I just read about it. Surprised that such blatant corruption existed in the USA. Glad that he is now safely in the long arms of the law and may he have a long long sentence. The way he talked seemed like he own the Senate seat.

Corrupt government officials should be tried for treason....

That's an interesting take. I wouldn't go so far as to raise the question of treason (because treason is very narrowly construed under the Constitution), but your point raises a valid question - to seek to literally sell a Senator's seat - well, it does go to a question beyond the corruption criminality, to compromising an office which affects the entire citizenry. Nice point, Firegirl.

Chicago has been known for years for voter fraud and corruption. People call it 'Chicago Politics'

This really makes you wonder about Obama.

Everything under the sun is not a referendum on Obama, Bogart.

To follow this logic out - the last Governor was a Republican governor, currently doing time for corruption. Does this mean that every Republican politician out of Illinois is under the cloud of "really makes you wonder about ....."?

I really am puzzled by this personal thing you seem to have with Obama.

Political fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko who raised money for the campaigns of both Blagojevich and Obama is awaiting sentencing after being convicted of fraud and other charges

According to Tuesday's complaint, Blagojevich schemed with Rezko, millionaire-fundraiser turned federal witness Stuart Levine and others to get financial benefits for himself and his campaign committee.

I've talked w/ a few lawyers who know him. They all say he's a lazy cup of piss. He's good at politicking and that's about it.

I told my wife months ago that he'd be in cuffs soon!

Well no matter where you go on this planet, people associate Chicago with gangsters and corruption.

BTW- One good thing I've heard about Blago...he's really good at remembering names. :p

I hope he's good at combining names with numbers, now - "Jonesy Smokes: No. 3427687 - don't turn your back to him...." "Fatboy Slim - No. 7659871 - good for contraband...."

God - what astounds me is this guy knew he was under federal scrutiny. And he talks on the phone. It's almost like he wanted to get busted.

The more I read of the indictment, the more I'm fuming:

"Stuck" as governor - when people are in the financial fight of their lives. He's lucky to be in law enforcement hands.

I think they may have to rebid that one. Probably time to cancel that check.
