Last week, some of my sites got PR4, one site got PR5, but there aren't any changes in SERPs or traffic. Maybe is too early to see changes? Maybe there is no relation between PR and SERPs?. And more... strangely, this PR4 and PR5 sites have a low number of incoming links, about 5 or 6, and all the incoming links are from sites of my own, free hosting blogs, or even free hosting webs, all of them with low PR or even PR0. I can't understand anything about Page Rank!
ya, there's plenty of PR5 out there. It seems PR5 becomes less important now. Also, the link sale from PR5 has drop considerably... hmm..
sanabara, which is more important for you; visitors/traffic or Google PR? It seems like your focus has been on PR, and you might want to change priorities a little
Although you're raising in PR will not directly effect your SERP's you raise your pr by adding backlinks... And those do effect your SERP's... What you aren't understanding is that even though PR is on a scale (1-10) SERP's is not and is changed constantly. So you may have gotten a PR 5.. But this does not make it that much better, b/c your serps have been accounting for the increase in backlinks (however much they're worth in the algo) the entire time.. Hope that wasn't confusing.
I dont think its important that you get a better PR. Its better that pages linking to your site get a better Pagerank. My pagerank also just came from 4 to 5 but i didnt had an influence on my SERP. But its still good to be in the 5'er club
PR does affect SERPs as it is made up of links to your site, 5 means above average IMO (3 being the norm). Your PR has been 5 since June, the Google Toolbar info is out of date by about 3 months and only updates about 3 months (that's about 6 months out of date!) a week is too soon to see any effects however the effects of your PR 5 have already been in effect
Coincidently one of my site also got a PR5 in the update. That, and the work I've been putting in for some while has put the site on the third page. Competitive keyword (web design related), sandbox (site just 3 years old), links, content etc. Still don't know which is the major factor, if any, but must agree it is still nice to have a PR5 even if traffic is where it's alwys been.
if there is 2 sites similar in content, and targeting the same keywords, one is PR0 the other PR6, the latest will be on top of any search for that keyword. The reason is simple Google assumes that the one with more backlinks is more relevant, so a PR6 would have more backlinks then a PR1 IF BOTH ARE ON THE SAME INDUSTRY! that means you may find a website with PR4 and 100 backlinks, and a PR6 with 60 backlinks, but both would not be on the same industry!
Having a high PR is gradually losing its power and importance nowadays because traffic is the keyterm in a website success. Also people like buying links from high trafficed websites than deserted sites with high PR alone.
Trust me on that one, I've seen (and helped) many high PR sites fly up in Google (placements within a month! for stupid terms too!!) PR is not worth chasing as you will get burned, it is a lot better to work on the general growth of a site and PR picks up by itself.
