When I started my site a while back , I targetted my keywords "football blog".. Ive been crawling slowly up the ranks and today hit #8 http://www.google.com/search?q=football+blog It took a while and hard work in a tough niche but hope itll pay off!
Given that it's a competitive keyword (SOC of 4,650) I have but one thing to say to you. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Okay, two things. Try to get that (naturally of course) up to at least #5 by the end of the year. Good luck!
@Tom, Did you do anything special that you might want to share with us for getting it to #8? CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!
The only thing that I can see that the top 7 sites have over you is age. One of those sites is only a PR0 and has a 10th of your links but it has a wayback age of 2004, the youngest one beside yours is from 2007 and it has over 40,000 links to and internal. Keep building links and you'll get there. Nice blog by the way.
Thanks Guys. To be honest ive never looked at it like building links. In the beginning i sent crap emails to sites and asked for link exchange... crap! Now i build a relationship with those I get in touch with and sometimes all that happens is a link exchange , sometimes we end up with more. One example is a great guy down under whos a photographer & a football shirt collector. I could have just asked for exchange of links and that'd be it. We keep in touch now and try and help each other out where possible.. But all about building relationship.... Ive been busy with various extras on the site over the last few months in preparation for Premier League ( UK ) coming up and World Cup next year.. But ill have to get busy again soon .. building those relationships!
First, congratulations for the hard work... I have a question for you, being at the first page for a competitive term like that how many visitors you can expect?? If you want PM me, its ok
Congrats. How much traffic is that keyword bringing in per day. I imagine it should be a decent amount.
thats awesome.. so it has to be more then just link building huh? i mean the structure of your url's and titles probably have a big part of things to right? BTW your site goes down when i go to it for some reason? It shows up for like 3 seconds and then goes to a page that says "ISOHUNT the page your looking for wasn't found." page error. You should fix that!
An average of 500-800 per day. To be honest , while "football blog" was a target keyword , actual searches are minimum. Its always good to set a target and work from there.. so at least you can see progress.. Wordpress is top class for SEO.. *BUT* Title is king.. I say it again... Title is king... Ive done lots of tests over the years and Google gives more kudos to Title metatag over any other. I havent got a chemistry set to tell you why.. But trust me , thats the case.... EDIT - Also ... Google images is your friend when you use a "break out of frames" plugin/script...... ISOHUNT- never seen or heard of it.. Possible issue on your side mate..
hmm, thats weird? I mean your error page?.., you should definently look into that you could possibly be missing out on a ton of traffic! where are you located exactly? Im near houston, tx.. it could have something to do with the fact that we are so far away from each other? Does anyone else see the error page that im seeing? Just looking out for ya man!
