Today it arrived, but the question is, do I use it?

The only thing putting me off is possible compatibility issues. I use my PC mainly for internet browsing and developing/coding various things.

I'm thinking it's probably better to wait, but what do you think?

    Do. Not. Install.

It is slow, it will not be compatible with many programs, it is also insecure.

Wait at least until they release a service pack, then judge based on the service pack.

    You are lucky.

I will probably stay with XP for awhile till the programs I used are all tested to work fine with vista then I may upgrade..

If it comes with a recently purchased a PC, it is most likely compatible. I could run Vista in Aero on my old dual Athlon MP 2600 with a NVidia GeForce FX 5200 video card and 2.6 gigs of RAM. My son ran it on a newer machine with a much better video card and he found it ran faster than XP.

For people who like to lean out the window on mountain curves, Vista is the way to go. Otherwise stick with trusty ol XP.

Myself, I have my eye on Windows Server 2007 on the computer I plan to build next summer -- a dual quad. That will be very cool.

For the home computers, I plan to wait out Vista and go with the next OS, which should have all Vista's undeliverable OS improvements.

I think you should just upgrade to Vista. I have two copies of Home Premium and have NO issues with it whatsoever. The only thing that doesn't work is a few classics that use Direct X 5. It is really fast for me too - much faster than XP. I have the 64bity editions and there isn't many good virus scanners out there for Vista 64bit and I have ZERO viruses.
