Got my first check today! One question....

I finally got my first google check. I reached the $100 mark back in December. Hopefully there will be many more and hopefully LARGER ones.

The question: Do they withhold taxes or some kind of processing fees? The check was for about 91.2% of what I thought it would be...

Did you choose the regular delivery or express?
In my country I need to convert the US dollars to NIS so they will take a fee about that...Maybe its with you too or you using the US dollars?

This topic is relevant to the "Payment" sub-forum...

They don't withhold taxes. You have to file it yourself at the end of the year. (If you live in the States I mean.)

They don't take out taxes. You should get a 1099-MISC from them at the end of the tax year showing how much they paid out to you. You will then use that in your tax filing.

This is also reported to the IRS... though there is a min req by the IRS to make the issuing of the 1099-misc required by a business. The min is around $500 or $600 for the tax year.

Yep, then you'll have to get used to filing Schedule C and Schedule SE unless you are incorporated then it's a whole other world!

Thanks folks. I'm in the US. I don't believe I've selected express since it's taken months to get the first check anyway what's the hurry....

Now I just need to optimize my CTR etc...

Mediaguru, the cheque should be exactly the same as the amount mentioned in your Accounts info imo. Do note that this might not match the amounts that you originally saw as the payments are sometimes adjusted at the end of the month for clicks that Google might think are fraudulent or even repeat clicks from the same IP address etc. So, the amounts in your Adsense reports and the payments can vary by a few cents or so. Having said that, a 9% difference is pretty huge and maybe you should contact Google about this.
