Hi everybody! I got CPanel WHM installed on one of my dedicated servers, but if im not a reseller should I really keep that system? Which control panel should I be using if im only business based with my own websites and not others? What ill be using mostly is adding domains, subdomains, mysql databases and running my own websites as mentioned above? Appreciate any light on this Thanks
Well, the easiest to use is by far Cpanel. It will do exactly what you need it to do and is not specifically for resellers. The down fall of cpanel is the fact that it is quite costly and it uses a tonf of system resources. Now, if you want to use a control panel that is very stable, uses almost no system resources, and is cheaper, you have two choices. Interworx which I recommend DirectAdmin I do not like it but many people do.
If you're new to web hosting (defined as you don't know how to set up a Lamp server from scratch) i'd stick with CPanel. There are a lot of alternatives but none with the support if Cpanel and it's very easy to use. I often use lighttpd with no control panel, but Cpanel is always quicker and easier. If you want to give an alternaive a go I recommend this kind of set up: http://vpslink.com/hostinabox-lxadmin-vps/ With lighttpd, LXadmin uses just 10mb of ram to run, Cpanel needs at least 512mb to be any where near stable.
Hi Neptune, i have checked on the directadmin interface through the DEMO and I like the setup of the script, looks easy and as you said doesn't consume that much resources. Yea im kinda new when it comes to running a webhost under CPanel WHM. I guess I have to learn this from scratch. From what I understand so far, every new domain i want to add to the system I MUST create a new account. So if I have 10 domains in the system, I need to create 10 different accounts as well. Is this correct ? That should also mean I need 10 different ftp accounts to be able to upload html and script content to the domains.... I appreciate any help...
With Cpanel it's best to create an account per domain if you can. You can use 'add-on' domains through Cpanel but the problem with that is all of your various domains will be based in one folder (and sub folders) on the server, which isn't very good for loads of reasons.
