Since Joining a short time ago, I have been exposed to all this new stuff dealing with websites...

Thanks to you guys for all this info...

Anyways I check my Ranking on this site... checkgpr.com... My Backlinks a few weeks ago were only like 126 or so... Then I checked them a few days later and they went up to 226... Okay a few days later and they went back down by 100... Tonight they are at 266...

One thing I have done that I read here is use either Pingoat or Ping-O-Matic after I update the site with new content...

My site is not hugely popular and I never expected it to be, but is this increase due to now using those Ping sites or is the site checkgpr.com just not reporting things correctly... I have not been actively pursuing getting backlinks or sharing links with other site...

    Thanks,

    Keith

I wouldn't trust any back link checker like that to be correct.

Google has quite a few datacenters and each one will give a different number of backlinks to your site at any one time. This is especially true around the time of a PR/backlinks update (there was one a week or two back).

The best way to check your backlinks is to do a search for link:www.yoursite.com at google.com.
