Got an inquiry from Quiet Light to sell a site -- legit?

    Hi,

I received a message from someone at Quiet Light Brokerage regarding one of my sites, stating that they have buyers for these types of sites.

In your opinion, is this just them building a contact list (or inventory list) or do you think they are actually targeting my site as someone has asked about it? Does anyone have any experience with this brokerage/service?

I'm just looking for general business input on this whole thing as I have never been approached to sell a site blindly like this and I'm naturally suspicious, but am also definitely interested in a potential sale.

    Here is the message:

    Hi,

I am wondering if www.<site deleted>.com is FOR SALE?
If so, or you would like to discuss further, please contact our Managing
Director <name deleted> at 000-000-0000. We have connections with buyers
interested in purchasing sites such as yours. This is a serious inquiry.

We look forward to working with you.

    Cheers,

    Thanks in advance!

It's very informal, perhaps it is legit though. If you'd like my help with some quick guidance/evaluation etc. I may be able to help you make an educated decision on both the sale and how you handle your transaction.

    Best, be careful.

I believe you're talking about these guys http://www.quietlightbrokerage.com/ . I haven't tried them but they seem to be legit. Does the numbers match?. Go for it. Do you know the value of your domain name?.

    @NC: Thanks - I'll keep that in-mind!

@Buzz: The phone number in the e-mail does not match their general contact info on the site (different area code), but both are Minneapolis (651 and 507 - it looks like a split code area), so it's probably OK (maybe a cell).

Frankly I don't make much money with the site (Adsense + TLA = maybe $50/mo.), but it does have a nice pile of original content, so I can only guess that a potential buyer might want the site for that + PR3 domain/etc. Is this a reasonable line of thinking, or do people only consider existing revenue and thus will be unexcited by the $ numbers?

    Thanks again!

You could always use an escrow service so you don't get burned. Have the buyer pay any fees.

That email was sent by one of our brokers. Many of our brokers work in satellite locations (we are located in Minneapolis - this broker is located just south of us in Rochester, MN).

We are a fairly new brokerage firm started up this past year, but have a wealth of experience (10+ years) in business brokerage and online business. Because we are new I am sure most people haven't heard of us yet. :) Time will cure that (I hope).

I'd be weary of using a broker who can't spring for a 800 number. Using a local area code is fine for a local business, but doesn't look very professional for a national business.

It is something that we are considering, but for the type of people that we deal with it typically is not a problem. If we were running a mass call center or support lines it would be more of a consideration.

But again, it is something we are considering and looking into...

Looks like this thread is a bit old, but if you haven't done anything yet, and still have your site, you can trust these people. They almost sold my site and biz for me, at a good rate. They were professional (I worked with Debra Matthews - great gal) and she was really good at figuring out what the buyer's objections were and why, then taking our information and overcoming those objections. She quickly resolved any issues and bumps along the road. We actually spoke with more than one potential buyer, had an Intent to buy letter, and the buyer was actually driving to our town to see our biz operations!

In fact we did not end up selling, but only because it was not a good time for our biz and due to the economy, it took a downturn. She advised us to wait a year or two, and then we'll resubmit to her to sell it for us. We will do this, because she's always spot on in her predictions, and she's honest.

Truth is, with all the weirdos and dishonest people on the 'net, I wouldn't trust anyone else.

On a side note - I feel that in the past, like 10+ years ago, it was important as a biz to have an 800#, but with all the cell phone plans out there, as well as hard line lump sum calling plans out there, an 800# for a smaller biz makes no sense and is a real waste of income. If it's free for you to call me using your cell phone, why should I reduce my income to have you call my 800#...it does cost PER CALL. So 10 years ago...yes - but now? There's no need for a smaller company, and QLB is a smaller company, to waste their income, and cause someone to question their integrity, on something so petty. Just my personal outlook...and I probably feel this way because we used to have an 800# and it was expensive and worthless.

    Best wishes -

There's no need to bring up a two year old thread. Stop trying to boost your post count.

'Scuse me, but you're waaaaay off base. I happened to have been doing some online work, and when I did a search on google, saw a post where someone was asking about QLB. Since I was familiar with the company, I read the post, and figured I'd help them out to let them know the company was legit. When I tried to reply, it said I needed to register in order to post. So I registered, and then as I was replying, realized it was a couple of years old...but figured since I'd already gone THAT far, I might as well go ahead and answer it.

I don't know anything about this forum, I have nothing to do with it, I don't care about it, and I don't give a rat's patootie about "post count" --- nor do I even know what it means...I was just a guest, trying to help that person out who started the post.

So the next time you want to thrash someone, why don't you ask first. I was actually trying to be nice.
