Got an idea for software CB product - what now?

Hi guys, few days ago I got a really good idea for a new niche software product. There is huge market for it, small competition and no similar product on CB right now. I know there are many vendors of registry cleaners and other software products here on DP so I am hoping you will be able to answer a few questions for me.

    1. I have no programming knowledge so my only chance is outsourcing it. Where can I find a good programmer or team of programmers for this task? Should I look for programmers with previous experience of programming a software specifically for CB or does it not matter?

    2. Do I have any legal obligations as an owner of a software? Do I need to register the software name and have some lawyer write a proper disclaimer for me? The product has to do with music so I really wouldn’t want to get sued for breaking property rights or something of that sort.

    3. How much should I expect to pay for the development? I know this depends on the specific software but just approximately. How much did development of your software cost?

Thanks in advance for taking your time to answer ;)

Costs vary wildly depending on your requirements and the programmer (or team of programmers) that you hire.

Legalities - you don't have to register the software anywhere, but having a lawyer write a disclaimer is always a good idea. And if it's to do with music, you should definitely get someone qualified to make sure you won't be at risk of being sued.

Hi ferdyfauzi, To answer some of your questions..

    1. For the programming parts, I usually get them from scriptlance.com. But if you know some friends, who are good at programming, that will do the trick too.

2.You mentioned your product is something to do with music. Before spending your money on that software, I will advise you to send an mail to clickbank and ask them if such product is approved by them. The last thing you want is spending thousands of dollars and getting rejected by them. They have 100s of reasons on why they denied your product.

    3. I think there is no fixed answer to this question. My guess is it could cost few thousands of dollars to develop, especially when you are buying the rights for the software. A lot of factors depends. For eg, the kind of features, etc.

Tip: When posting your project at scriptlance, Hide your project bid. Also, read the reviews before hiring them. And always, escrow the payment. Good luck.

Programmers can run anywhere from $30-$150/hour. I've tried outsourcing via elance/guru, etc and hiring a local programmer. And I have much better results from the local guy. It makes a huge difference being able to talk requirements face-to-face.
