Hey guys I just bought a .com that I have been saving to buy for when godaddy had another 1$ .com sale. Well that day has come today and I bought my .com that has 9,900 global exact global search and only 2,840 Allintitle search. (coupon code holiday99 - .com only)

    Market Samuri shows competition at

It looks very promising to me, especially since 4 out of 10 on the first page do not have the term in their URL. I currently work for an online company so I do understand SEO a bit and pulling for the title, heading and description should not be a problem.

How important is the DMOZ directory and the YAH directory, id never even heard of them until I picked up MS?

The major problem I see is competing with 1. Youtube (I know I don't have a chance) 2. Gawker.com 5. Yahoo's "associatedcontent.com" the third position looks like it was made by a 10 year old and the 4th position is just a semi established blog.

My question is basically how much weight does an exact match .com have when competing against these major news sites, will it even make a difference? My thinking is that, if a shitty child site and a shitty blog can beat yahoo's associated content news article, I probably have a good chance, but I wanted to hear what you guys thought before I pursue.

Thanks for all of the help guys, I plan to be contributing more as I move along on this project. I will keep a journal of how this goes if anyone is interested....

    Peace

DMOZ and YAH used to be very important, but now not so much. They are strong for local businesses trying to rank for location, but they are probably not to be sweated over for the rest of us.

We did some research a little while ago and found that the domains don't matter that much when you start to get into more and more competition. Really, the only time they matter at all is when there are people linking to you with your company name, which is also your URL. So if you have nike and nike.com and then you are trying to make your website rank for "washing machines" then you are going to struggle.

Nice work! I'm excited for you! Exact match holds lots of weight if your content is fresh and relevant, on page seo is in place! I don't see why you won't be in #1 if you implement a unique and diverse seo campaign. Dmoz and yahoo I wouldn't even worry about just like steers82 said. Youtube no problem it is there because .... well pm me. You can bump him to #2 or even #3 . GL time to get to work!!!!! I'm interested in following :)

You can compete with the youtube link. Just make a video about your product or service. An easy way to do this by turning one of your articles into a PowerPoint presentation, then record this presentation using CamStudio or Camtasia. Read the article and you have created a video article. Make sure you have the link to your site written on every page of the presentation. Use your keyword as the sites Title and put your link and keyword in the description section when uploading to youtube.

Alright here's the deal. If you found an exact match .com then you will have no problem ranking #1 here. Build your site to at least 10 pages and build homepage links and deep links to all those pages. You should see a #1 position in your future with proper SEO (h1 tags, title tags, meta descriptions, etc.). Good find!

I've seen domains rank very high based on just exact match domain name. You should have no problem getting to number 1
