Got a PR 2 by mistake - How to make it stay?

    Hey guys,

A few months before I 've installed a 'bad' phpbb for 'no purpose' at all. I was just trying the installation and it was a phpbb2 not even 3rd version. And left it. For a few time spammers danced over there and I 've cleaned it recently. For my surprise with the recent PR update it has a PR 2. I 'm sure that its 'an often mistake' by Google. But can I do anything to make the PR stay. Can I remove the phpbb and install vbulletin and start a real forum?

    Great advices expected.
    Mervik!

Sure. acquire one way backlinks for high quality, relevant sites with strong PR, and your PR will not only stay, it will increase.

But I'm scared a bit. Will the PR will be gone if I install a totally new script with the same name?

If you change your content dramatically, it could dramatically change your PR, yes.

But it's not difficult to gain PR. All you need is one way, do follow links from high quality, relevant pages with strong PR.

As my DP friends said , to keep PR, you just need backlinks from high PR site! Also content is very important in the business too.
Keep everything clean and unique and have more high PR backlinks.

Yeah, It's not at all difficult to get a PR if we can get dofollow links from high quality, relevant pages with strong PR, you are correct. But the difficult thing is to get such links. :D

PR is not dependent on content. It depends upon the links.
So you can install whatever you like.
    Make it more valuable.

So you mean - It's all an off-site game. But honestly I've never done any off-site optimization for the forum. I had forgot about the forum till it obtained a PR, in fact.

I'm confused about this. But I really 'd like to build a useful forum and make it to the next level with PR.

Please do share some more information//helps on the topic.

    M!

Pagerank has lost its value and significance over the past couple of years dramatically.
Yes, PR 'was' just about backlinks many years back but now its about backlinks/age/authority/traffic/SERPs Placement and yeah some more factors we don't know about.
Changing your script to vBullettin should not cause any issues with PR as there are many people who buy domains with a High PR and sometimes completely change the content and the PR stays.

What i feel is, 85% it will not affect your PR and 15% your PR can be lowered. However since you'll be installing vBulletin, i believe you will develop the site and do some linkbuilding as well. So you shouldn't worry about losing your current PR as even if you do lose it, you'll be able to gain it back in the next update respectively after the one in which you lost it.

You are correct, the more outbound links on the page, the less link juice it passes. However, the more you have, the more your link juice accumulates.

Link building is not a one time effort. It's something you have to put time into on a regular basis for the entire time you own the website. I usually start off trying to get 100 backlinks from blog comments on articles with PR. Then I like to try to gain 10-20 backlinks per week for a couple of years.

If you are interested in more expeditious methods of gaining quality backlinks, send me a PM.

:) Thanks. The Pm is on it's way. By the way the best link building strategy for me is forums and PRs. Both works great for me.

Do you think that directory submissions apart from dmoz and a 2-3 similar sites gonna give you backlinks? No never. It can only help you to get indexed.
