Hi guys, Okay, so I have got some earphones coming from a wholesaler in China, I buy them fairly regularly, don't ususally have any problems. Rang up TNT today to track the parcel and they said it has arrived and being held in cardiff customs as it required more information from the receiver (me). The guy said that it could be anything really, they may want to tax me on it, or something like that. The item is 10 pairs of Bose earphones. I am not sure what value the seller put on the parcel, I have never really taken any notice. Anyone know what kind of charges I might face from customs? (I'm talking about money here, not a prison sentence )
It all depends on what commodity code group they fall under as to what tax they are subject to, In all fairness you should be paying tax on them anyway - Ive been importing for years and know that most chinese suppliers do an under value invoice anyway stating a lower cost, What are the head phones actually worth? If you expect a figure of 20% added to the value of what the company has valued the parcel at you wont be in for a shock.
Yeah the taxi on uk imports is pretty high. I know some places mark the package as a gift to get around the taxes, but if you get caught you'll have to pay up. Although, what with the generally high prices of electrical goods in the uk, it sometimes still works out cheaper to import.
