Does anyone here think Google will ever come out with there own version of windows to put the last nail in the coffin for Microsoft.. I myself think this is probably something they will not pursue however you never know. It would be interesting to buy a new Dell with Google windows installed.
This has been asked like a gazillion times before and the most obvious answer seems to be yes. But it's going to be a while. In my personal opinion they're first going to develop little apps and underlying structure for the Google OS, Google desktop for one, and then work on the real thing.
Taking into consideration the plethora of horrible bugs in Google's current search engine -- I do not believe that I would quickly install a GoogleOS.
After seeing how they've handled the Google Accounts integration w/ Adwords, Gmail and Analytics, you couldn't pay me to install a Google OS. They're definitely trying to do too much already.
That part has been bugging me! They used cookies in a way to merge some accounts and it has been a pain, since I have two completely different stores in froogle, but they don't seem to allow that under one account so I have 2 accounts in froogle. They forced merging my gmail account with a non-gmail account without me asking - that part freaked me out! What if someone did the setup on a public computer? then they would be able to hack an account!
I admit Microsoft has some security problems BUT thing is Microsoft has over 20 years of building operating systems and I know MS does care about Windows. I'd be a bit afraid to install Google OS because: Application Compatibility Stability Reliability I can tell you Windows Vista is looking very good despite the rumors about it. I have a beta copy installed and every new CTP it is looking very good.
Agreed.. Google Serps are still messed up and at the same time it seems like daily I see post like Have you seen the new google Bla Bla Bla service.. I wasn't able to get Analytics functioning properly since they were overwhelmed with server problems when yet another program introduced. it seems like they are throwing alot of things to the dogs including the search..Asking us to report on the serp's ??? They are Google you would think they could get it straight?
How could there ever be a G version of Windows? That goes against their entire business model, to have the world use their portal in order to show the world their targeted advertisements. If anything G will have rivals to the office suite and some sort of enterprise email/collaborative software that will all be hosted on their portal. Where Microsoft is doomed here is that people will no longer need a PC in order to do productivity tasks.
Microsoft would sue G in a heart beat if they ever tried to release Windows. I don't think that OS is where G is going unless they make an online one.
Do you really think the pc industry will ever store stock there pcs with a Google operating system lol that will never happen. And not only that we need windows to operate the majority of our software, Google will have to have a long fight with Microsoft to even make a dent.
I think google is moving toward a "virtual OS". Your actual computer would become largely insignificant (except for running very specialized apps) while 90% of all data storage/access, email, office-type apps etc would all be happening in "googlespace". I think the Google OS will happen, but will be more of an "operating Environment" than an "operating system". I think this is what Bill Gates originally hoped .NET would become. MS seems to be moving in this direction again now. Now, as to whether that is a good way to go or not, well, that's a whole other kettle of fish.
I agree with Tut. I can see G having some sort of space similar to their customized RSS feed space where you just include links to productivity software like word and excel. I mean when you look at it the WYSIWYG editor for most comments (like this one); that's all most people need for word precessing.
My crystal ball also sees something very much like a web-based, ajax-driven flavor of Open Office from G eventually. (Although G has denied this in the past).
You're correct. Brin outright denied the Open Office notion in a conference he made a surprise visit to recently.
perhaps google should get their serps ironed out before they go developing OS's eh? they have kinda screwed up what made them so popular, the search engine. they need to slow down a notch. theyre releasing so much junk i cant even keep up with it. everyday theres some new google service, and most of its not very good. google translation, google maps, gmail, and google search seem to be the only four things google has made thats worth a crap IMO
I think Google OS will be Released and will be distributed FREE. And 75% of the OS will cover its Advt related programs.(TO get indirect Revenue).
