Googles 'similar pages' or 'related' results

Can anyone tell me if Google not showing any 'similar pages' for a site is of any significance and what influences the pages that are presented by the big G. when this link is followed?

I have several newish sites that have been progressively moving up the Google SERPs but when I look for 'similar pages' (the same as using the 'related:' operator) G. shows nothing. I'm wondering if this is an indication of some sort of issue.

    Hoping someone can help.

    Cheers for the reply.

AFAIK - The 'similar pages' results are of no consequence. It's just that I've been lead to believe that they are - which I think is wrong.

I have several newish sites all doing well for their key search terms on page #1 and none have any similar pages listed by G.
