Google's SERP accurate?

When I googled "earn money internet" (Aug 08 Google 4,220,000 Msn 21,300,000 searches) I observed earnersblog.com was listed 1st.

Very strange because the last post was on 13-06-2008. Surely there are other sites/blogs deserve this position.

Fluctuations are sometimes seen in the search engines listings and also at some points the data results you are seeing are not that up to date due to loading older ISP cache pages.

Pretty normal for google serp to fluctuate around, as for me I see it as shuffling. Maybe more sites are deserved to be on top of result and they are shuffling to be on top then others goes on top the next time.

I assume it's happening more when Google is updating results. Or do you think it might be happening because more and more seos are fighting for the same keywords?

Well yes other sites/blogs will get that position only if they can outbid the performance of earnersblog.com. Some that will be counted in as performance are:
    1) How many backlinks does it has
    2) How many quality/relevent content that are pointing to it

    :)

"Content freshness" is just one of the parameters for SERP. It is not the only one. SERP also depends on a lot of others parameters such as inbound links and the "content relevancy".

Content freshness is not a huge factor in the algorithm IMO. It's how important google feels that content is when determining rankings.

The date of last post doesn't matter because google ranks the site based on it's keywords on content and relevancy of backlinks.

    Dear All,

Not many incoming links (about 1,460) - many non-thematic.

I remember reading about freshness not that important.

May be some of the backlinks this site got, are of high quality. May be PR4 or above backlinks from relevant sites?

I have seen many sites ranking high in Google even the content in the site is not updated any more.

google shouldn't worry about content freshness at all, fresh does not equal quality

it is a mistake of them to be concerned at all about constant updating, because updating can all be garbage content too
