Hello all, I think I found the Google's results for nothing which means all pages in the Google index. http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?p=70039#post70039 Didn't want to duplicate the post but thought you guys might be interested. Dilip
Yes, the query is for nothing and the results have everything. Reminds me of the nihilistic teaching in Zen, the quest for nothing gives you everything.
As I have pointed there, The search for * alone doesn't fetch you the results or for the matter any single special character queried doesn't yield any results. but the search for ** revealed something, This ** can be interpreted as anything between anything or nothing which means everything.
It's interesting to look at the order of these results. It appears that, contrary to searching for -aldksjfweoituewlir, the sites order is absolutely by pagerank. The calculator example probably has something to do with floating point precision, but that's not really ontopic.
Hello Tman, I searched with any language set as the preferred language. When I set it to english alone, ** yielded 4.9 billion documents. Some interesting stats you can get if you search by languages alone. Even when setting it to any language, Google places english sites being the major ones in the SERPs, strange!!!
okay, here are the stats I get: English - Results 1 - 10 of about 4,590,000,000 Arabic - Results 1 - 10 of about 12,700,000 FRench - Results 1 - 10 of about 151,000,000 While searching for french * and ** yield results.
searching for ** means searching fo any two chars try this: link result numbers are decreasing and this one: link results keep on decresing
