well the job turf pointed out does say about manual evaluation, who knows in what though , i would assume either sites highlighted by spam reports or highest ranking
Yeah as KLB said they are probably used to dig out the spam from their results or even sites using cloaking methods. I would suspect they target the more competitive results such as the travel industry, credit cards and all the other big money makers. But as per usual with Google nobody knows much about this department so we are left to come up with our own ideas. I would doubt that this team would actually give a site a boost in the ranks just because it has good content or is relevant but in saying this it would make perfect sense that they use humans to "tweak" their results to give better quality.
Well you should apply As far as I seen on another recruitment drive for the same position they were offering 60K-80K a year....now that speaks words to me. I would think they would be recruiting people with different languages too and there is no shortage of that here in Dublin.
The listing doesn't say anything about actually making adjustments, which jibes with KLB's explanation. It's probably something like... "Do you find the results better now?" "How about now?" That would be a cool job
The thread is titled "Google's results...controlled by humans!" This along with the comments in the linked "article" imply that the top search results in at least some popular searches are manually manipulated, WHICH IS NOT THE CASE. At most search results are reviewed and scored by humans to determine, which automated COMPUTER algorithm returns the best results. This is a far cry from humans controlling Google's search results.
The fact, is indeed, that nobody has 100% sure about this issue. Neither Shae, nor KLB. So this topic is completely useless, because is only about speculating the "reality about google"
Really there isn't much speculation on my part because Google has made the claim quite frequently (even in the court of law) that their search results are the result of automated algorithms and ARE NOT manipulated manually. Think about it for a second folks.... Manually manipulating search results makes no sense. The automated nature of Google's search results provides them with a great amount of legal cover from lawsuits by those who try to sue Google over poor search placement or because they fell out of the search results. Manually manipulating search results would be incredibly inefficient even if Google only focused on a select group of search phrases and then by manually manipulating a few search phrases, Google would be opening themselves up to even more lawsuits. There is absolutely no advantage or benefit for Google to manually manipulate search results AND it would be more labor intensive than using a fully automated process. Let me say this very clearly... THE PREMISE OF THIS THREAD STARTED ON IS FALSE. Google does not manually manipulate individual search results. At most they ban particular websites that are spamming (normally automatically) and they are constantly manipulating their computer algorithms to continually tune those AUTOMATED computer algorithms to improve the quality of Google's search results and eliminate as much spam as possible.
