What a joke. What about the directories that have suffered similar fates? Are you really trying to say that bidding directories and all the other paid directory link farm scams are any different? Do you think Google hasn't noticed those activities? Do you think Google isn't already taking action to nullify them? Get real. What have directory owners done for Google? Absolutely nothing. You did it for the money. You did it to try to make a buck off Google's ranking system. Google has intervened to stop you. Will you PLEASE stop repeating this crap? You have no idea what you're talking about. Yeah, you guys do that. Ignore that fact that 80% plus of traffic comes through Google. Just boycott them and settle for the remaining 20% from other search engines. Brilliant.
@minstrel dont tell me that i did it for the money as its my job to review sites submitted and classify them to thier designated categories for indexing and offer a vote that the site submitted is in fact what it is as its been reviewed by a human. None off my site where penalized as i wasnt trying to game anyones algo or chase the high pr sites in an attempt to manipulate rankings. Nothing has been stopped as i still continue to work and do my job to the best of my abilities and will continue to do so regardless. I can only agree that 80% of web traffic does comes from them and whether we like it or not face an uphill battle that may never be won but im so frustrated off being kept in the dark concerning issues with no help in sight. thx malcolm
I think everybodys lost track of what Google are doing, they are trying to improve the search results for end users to make their search better and keep them better than the other search engines. Why would anyone want to switch to yahoo or another search engine, when google delivers the best results and are continuing to improve the results all the time. I dont see yahoo doing anything like this. I think google are doing the right thing, we as webmasters should just be more patient with them.
History repeats in itself Guys go to your classroom/study rooms and read a little bit of history. Hundreds of years of history shows that- Good turned Evil, Savers turned Oppressor has only one place to go -- the dustbin of history. Google brought about a revolution in online Search ( tomorrow the 7th Sept, it becomes 9 years) , people supported it as it brought new things and opportunities................. Now that people have put their love and faith into it- it has become arrogant, oppressive. The one that once used to put people first -- is now trying to be a dictator, oppressor by way of thinking itself as WWW God. But it forgot that lots of biggies like Altavista/Ask have come and gone in the SE filed. Because they were not fulfilling what people demaned. No despot lasted for long Its the people that always won. For those --who think the new Algo is serving people (normal surfers) and not webmasters -- do your study twice before thinking it. Search any TERM -- what you mostly get is irrelevant deep pages from so-called old and authoritative sites in the top of the result that have little substance or value.
So what's changed there? Google has always rewarded seniority and authority... Google is right to target those who manipulate SERPs through paid links. You're not supposed to be able to buy your way to the top in Google
Well, its gotta start somewhere and G did not become big instantaneously. Ppl had to give it a shot first. So what if 80% of traffic comes thru G now? Does it mean we need to accept this as the status quo and let G take control of the internet. I wld much rather give other engines a chance to make it big than just lay back and let G roll all over us.
Get serious. You're going to boycott Google and use other search engines? Optimize for other search engines while boycotting Google? Settle for 20% of available internet traffic while boycotting Google? Not very likely. Ever hear the old expression "cutting off your nose to spite your face"? Like it or not, Google is the man and you are going to have to learn to play by Google's rules - or suffer the financial consequences.
Best to have good SERP's in Goog and Y - cover your bets. Yes is is possible to rank well in both Not so bothered about Live though
I don't understand why everyone seems to think Google owes them a living. They are a commercial organisation and will do whatever they need to do, to be sucessfull in business, predominantly providing their users, not webmasters with the results they are looking for. You don't have to play by their rules, but don't expect to win the Google game if you dont. You wouldn't buy a car, drive it on the roads, but ignore the rules of the road and expect to get away with it for long, because you use the roads on the basis of the rules in place. Likewise why does everyone expect G to let people do what they want when they are using (or manipulating) their engine. Ultimately if you don't like the Google rules, don't play their game, but I just wish everyone would stop complaining every time they do something you don't like! Steve
It is google's job to make the SERPs clean. It is the the webmasters job to be rank there with means as clean as possible. It is Google's Job to weed out the chaff from the wheat. It is the job of the webmaster to pass their chaff through the filter. Only two will prevail. Those who thinks as fast as Goog.. and try to pass their chaff and change as google changes. Those who have the wheat.. read CONTENT.. I like to be good in the earlier one. CONTENT is boring. Cat and Mouse with Big G is interesting..
That is what google adwords are about. If you pay more money on link sales to adwords you are on the top in google.
Agreed - 2 routes to page 1 - organically on MERIT - or pay Google through Adwords (and still get incentive to have good content with Adwords - Quality Score = lower CPC) Nothing wrong with any of that
