Google's paid directories crusade, SEOmoz, and terrible writing...

Ok, so, now Rand Fishkin appears to be trying to capitalize on the fact that 2 months after his piece on why Aviva sucks, a bunch of paid directories got penalized in Google. In his latest rant he seems to have abandoned such niceties as actually making sense, and just starts tossing words strung together out there.

I replied with "Why SEOmoz Needs A “For Entertainment Purposes Only” Disclaimer" (you know, like on psychic hotline commercials? :p), mostly because I think it's a little deceiving to present this stuff as if he actually has an in with Google, when in fact he even seems to forget what he is talking about at times.

For instance, he presents a list of directories he says Google does like... and in it lists the National Library of New Zealand, and the additional links page of Harvard University's Molecular and Cellular Biology Dept. I mean, yeah, I'm sure Google LOVES those things... but wtf do they have to do with paid directories? Anyone know?

Sounds like he is saying all directories except certain edu or org are junk. I think he is doing it for spider bait.

he is certainly not the only one trying to use the recent position of a number of directories to create the impression he has some knowledge over others
the directories section here has been busy with lots of little Rand Fishkin wannabes jumping in and out of posts with their theories on why certain directories have been penalised

    anyway good post michael
