Google just doesn't hand out PR based on the age of the domain. Perhaps, the new site had a couple higher PR backlinks (whether they're spammy or not is up to them, and obviously they didn't think so this time around).

The older sites you reference may have lost backlinks that it previously had, or ended up with a penalty for breaching the Google guidelines. I mean, there are a million possibilities, and there is one thing you can count on - you'll never know why :)

I never promoted the last site, and didn't do any link building. The niche is so specialized that there's no interest outside the area that I live. It's geographic specific and I dominate the market in the last one.

I am a bit disappointed with one of my sites, actively promoted, strong link building with many strong links, great content and it didn't move. I expected it to go from a PR3 to PR4 / PR5, but maybe next time. Alot of the links were built in the last month, which may be why no movement.

Ok, so I got 1 result back and my main blog dropped form a 3 to a 2. But and inner page went from 0 - 1 which I was surprised. All I did was made a html page and put all the directories and or SE banners or text links on it that I submitted to. It was a real basic sloppy page. No keywords, no meta tags in the header.

I had a PR of 5 on my forums URL, but I had to make new changes for more SEO-friendly URLs so I had to delete the domain that had a PR of 5. Oh well, PR of 2 now though!

I don't think the age of the domain really plays that big of a role in the PR ranking obtained. I have one site that went from N/A to PR4 and it has only been in existance since May 17, 2008. However, I've written some greaet unique content and have had a strong back link campaign underway for this site and it obviously paid off.

Plus, I have not bought any links, or participated in any link exchanges, or tried to use any SEO techniques that were questionable.

"You cannot buy links from any of my directories! You can pay for a review to get included "

    What does this mean?

Holy moly, JoeAnt.com got stripped of its internal Page Rank. And that's one of the top tier directories that's been around for a long time.

As a matter of fact, yes! Cutts has said repeatedly that submitting to directories is a good idea.

Does the same apply to dmoz and Yahoo! directory? Or is it the usual double standards we've come to love and expect from G? ;)

it means they keep your money even if they reject your link.

a loophole that people think they will get away with just because yahoo does.

It means, prior to submitting, you should ask whether your "fee" will be refunded if your site is rejected. Some will refund it, others are a little less compliant. ;)

PR changes every 3 months or so, if your links are genuine and of quality your PR should stay. It seems PR is getting updated atm, many changes even in SERPS.

You obviously don't know anything about directories!

And I'm just being sarcastic with the exclamation point. I don't write like that.
