Thought this would be an interesting topic since it seems a lot of site's page ranks were affected by Googles most recent Algorithm update. Have any of your guys and gals websites seen a drop in PR or visitor traffic form search engines? If you have not already read about Google's recent update you can catch up here, http://blog.ineedhits.com/search-ne...acted-31547803.html?source=10-06-04SFDIYdiy1h. Be sure to watch the video from Google's Matt Cutts. He explains it well.
I wonder if they targeted long tail searches because they know that this is where most of SEO is targetted and asameans of reducing spam sites being returned in SERPS.
I have seen increases in a number of my SERPs. I'm not surprised though as I have been working on them recently. It actually took longer for google to change their SERPs but i'm guessing this was because of their algorithm update that is rumored.
Mine is simply coming up in SERPS May be its that, my competitors are getting screwed and going down Thanks.
This recent Google update made me smile and not because I would gain benefits from it, but because this is the first smart update I have ever seen. Most of update focused on handling Spam attempt but this update help many smaller websites to get a chance to being listed instead of only giants over there.
I have seen this before. It is funny but everytime it does this my nerves get shot. I will normaly see a huge drop in my serps and then in a few days the serps are back to normal or even better. In the same way I have seen my serps go up and then in a few days drop again. I suggest not to worry for now until a few days pass. This may just be one of those Google dance times. They may step on your toes but you could be back on top in no time.
Not sure if it is correct to call it an algorithm update, but a number of keywords I watch I have seen large authority sites get demoted in favor of smaller niche players with spammy keyword rich backlink profiles. I am seeing things like spammy new(ish) lead generation sites outranking fortune 500s and long standing industry association sites. There have been discussions on a forum about this going back several days. I noticed minimal shifting in Google Analytics with regards to traffic, but when running a keyword report there has been some minimal shifting. Yet alot of people are seeing more drastic results. I decided a long time ago that Google updates and refreshes on a categorical basis and thats why I see some being affected today, others last week, etc.. I say minimal because if it was an update there would be serious movements on these keywords for me by now. With that said a data refresh would seem possible. I have noticed over a long period of time that while a data refresh is very important, it usually goes through a "cycling" period with minimal shifting, but seems to "bounce back" to a more normal flux within a week. My guess is that it cycles because new data is being applied to an existing algorithm. In my opinion thats what makes an update different than a data refresh because an update usually does not bounce back so quickly (a guess, but I think its because the index is applying a new algorith agains an existing set of data.) Also we would think that by now the traditional sources for confirmation that it was a true update would be out there. (i.e. Matt, Brett, etc...) I think that since bid daddy updates are less frequesnt and data refreshes are the norm and I spend more time looking at that than updates these days. At least for my niche anyway.
This update come by surprise, it seams like a mouse and cat fight with Google. They take us by surprise every time.
Well my SERP stays the same, only my PR was dropped from 2 to 0 lol I guess that was because links to my site were spammy, i am a newbie on all of this, didn't realise. However as long as my SERP stays the same, i won't complain much.
