Matt cutts is a big troll. He's there to provide valuable disinformation and scare tactics.

It's not like he programs the algorithm himself - he knows what is meant to happen and the ideals behind the changes but he won't know all the ramifications.

Okay...I feel stupid for asking...but...who is Matt Cutts? Is he the man responsible for all the latest Google SE changes?

No, he's Google's front man for their search engine - but he's not "responsible" for the changes themselves, there won't be any one person in charge of them.

Some of what he says seems to put a good spin on everything google is doing. It's more about PR than providing any step by step SEO specifics.

And yes this is why Matt Cutts has a job with Google, sitting pretty in the Google complex with all the Google benefits while some of those who are trying to rank their spam.info websites in the Google search engine.

Matt has said some things I personally don't care for but he has made plenty of great posts/comments that I have utilized and help debunk a lot of SEO myths.

Matt is basically the PR guy for Google, the one who issues vague suggestions that never actually work, the one who issues threats designed to intimidate the webmaster community into doing Google's bidding.

Years ago, I used to watch his videos, until one day I realized that I had learned absolutely NOTHING from anything he ever said. He never tells you the truth, the facts, the realities, he's like a politician pandering to an electorate and telling them what they want to hear while never committing to anything, with words like "should", "could" and "maybe".

All those who watch his videos and pay attention to what he says should really think about whether he has actually ever told you anything of worth. I have yet to find an example of Matt actually telling webmasters what they need to know, without cloaking it with vague suggestions that have no real certainty.

Matt cutts never reveals direct tactics or information, you have to smart enough to understand his answers, matt always gives clear idea about what to concentrate and what not be concentrated.

I am more in the middle in my opinion of Matt and Google as a whole. It is obvious sometimes that some of his "advise" are all scare tactics or diplomatic statements that give you nothing but...why wouldn't he? First of all those algorithms and the way they work does not apply automatically in 100% of cases, there is still a lot of manual work involved. Also, how would they benefit if they come up with clear and exact info about the specifics? They are just opening their doors widely for loopholes and workaround tactics. Moreover, as it was mentioned, he is not the one that physically developed and applied the algorithms, so there is a high chance that he is also missing some of the information or interpreting it on the go.

At the end of the day I like his videos. Not because they give you in-depth insights or share secrets "from the kitchen" of Google. I like them because they are well presented, not being too complex or filled with terminology. This is their purpose - to mainly help novices understand the basics, or to update about innovations and their effect. The trick is to logically perceive the information and use it as a base to react. This is not the wildlife, no one is going to find your food, chew it for you and spit it in your mouth, the beauty of the journey is finding the right path yourself ;)

Do you guys really believe anything from a guy that is paid for by google?
If so, then you believe everything our political leaders have said...and we always
catch them in "misleading" "lies" "mis-information" and so on...
and we pay them to pretty much to mislead us...

I would think most big compaines have a puppet....

The theme running through all of Matt Cutts' public comments is -- don't use Black Hat SEO because it ruins the internet.

Matt Cutts is a scaremongerer and he gets all the 'white hat' SEOs to do everything he says.

Just continue to build good links and content all the time and you will be fine.
