It doesn't appear if you try "car information", and there's an article on cars. I wonder what the trigger(s) is/are then. I also wonder how long they've been doing this now...

Car redirects to automobile, which may be the reason Wiki isn't triggered when searching for car information, or car info.

I think it doesn't work if the word is too general like "car" or "money" but, it works if you try something more specific, like "toyota info" :)

You can also put 'disease' information.
Try alzheimer info, diabetes info etc...

I tend to agree, Google is too much..

It is not really informational site ... more like everyone can be expert on everything .... it is crap if you go into .... it is not encyclopedia for serious research ..... full of misinformation and mistakes all over ....

Exactly. This is one of the reasons why I don't like Google's affection towards Wikipedia, and its the reason why many universities, etc don't allow you to use Wikipedia as a reference source.

The average Joe trusts Google too much. They would see such preference in the results as a vouching, and if the info is wrong...

As a general user/researcher, I LOVE seeing wikipedia near the top. It typically provides what I need.

Wow your research is really professional ;)

Maybe it is good for trivial data but it is not good for professional research. Facts are twisted like a person writing it want them to be...

True, I wouldn't base a research article from it. But it is great to learn the basics about a topic, and typically will quickly provide me with just the amount of information I need. I rarely find big mistakes on significant subjects.

Why you guys consider it at least like a conspiracy?

Wikipedia has a high Page Rank and it's content rich - it is that what google loves - relevant!

Try searching for The Great Khali on Google, the site in my sig deserves #2 and WWE deserves #1, but then there is Wikipedia! I'll do a blog post on this soon, seems like its going too far, if anyone has encountered any occurences of well SEO'ed and informative websites ranking below Wikipedia for highly competitive terms, please PM me so I could put that in examples

Wikipedia is a good site for general info, but it's not as great as it's made out to be. Its greatness is also its weakness. Anyone can change it so it is unreliable.

By the way, if you're a lazy blogger and link to Wikipedia, but don't want to pass on Google juice to it, I wrote a plugin a while back that adds rel="nofollow" to Wikipedia links.

I can't do links yet from my account, but if you search for "wikipedia nofollow" I'm on top. My plugin home page is:

    whatjapanthinks.com/wikipedia-nofollow/

Did you mean Google admires how Wikipedia swindle people with their annual donation thingie for doing noting? No improvement to its script, no improvement to its layout, no improvements to server performance and no improvement to its content which, by the way, is not written by anyone at Wikipedia but the candid users working for free while the founders keep gathering money
