Google's love to directories

I just witnessed that the quantum of penalizing(SERP Penalty or PR Penalty) dirs. by google is less for niche dirs. than general web dirs.

Does it mean google loves niche dirs. more than general dirs.?

How did you make this determination? I'd be interested in seeing some stats to back this up. Thanks!

Maybe lots of the niche directories are newer meaning they have not reached the penalisation stage yet.

Or less competition meaning a rival wont report for selling links.

It's not any particular type (general vs. niche) of directory that Google likes or dislikes. What google likes are good well edited directories that have tight categories. What google hates are bad directories that are full of spammy sites in wide categories that have no relation to each other.

Good directories actually help the Google SERPs because they help Google determine what sites belong in which niches. Bad directories ruin Google's SERPs so they go after directories that are simply selling links or accepting all types of submissions regardless of quality.

Niche directories are less likely to be the link pimps we see around here. They may offer free submissions anyway.

Well said. Exactly what I wanted to say.

I think both Matt and Rand have advised in the past that general directories just look like link sellers compared with the content rich niche directories of this world.

Good. The message is getting through to some at last.

As google have stated. They will penalize sites that has links on unrelated sites and will ban sites that are having lots of links than content. And the worst thing is if you sell links, you're a dead meat.:)

Yes lots of spammers round here, they realy don't care about OP's views or concerns, they are just interested in increasing their post count by posting nonsense shits.
