There's been a great deal of talk about the Google Penguin update. Can anyone explain in brief what are the major effects of this in search engine optimization?
Don't by an exact match domain, don't use meta tags, don't link to your site using the same anchor and do pay for adwords
Thanks for your reply, I was also just researching about penguin update and so far I found that we should avoid duplicate content on our website, also the site getting backlinks from irrelevant website will feel downfall in its ranking and reputation over the internet.
"Don't use meta tags," you say? I'm not sure where you got that information. The description meta tag is useful and helpful. It gives you the opportunity to tell the search engines exactly what each web page is all about. And if the search engines use it in the search results — which they usually (but not always) do — then in turn you are able to tell your readers precisely what your page is about.
duplicate content pretty much got taken care of by feb 2011 Panda update. Penguin update mainly targeted web spam and over optimization. so excessive use of meta tags, bold/italic keywords, too much keyword density, etc won't cut in anymore. i wouldn't say don't use meta tags in general. but meta keyword tag abuse is a big nono, then again thats the way it has been for a while now. meta title and description is must for any site as long as they are not stuffed with keywords.
