I have a website that has slowly gotten onto page 1 of Google for a specific keyword with 318,000 competitors, now the question is, my main competitor was in posiiton 1 until today when a new company got it, with only 1 backlink and ZERO PR... I'm confused, my PR is PR1 and my competitors is PR4. How has this been done? Can anyone tell me?
The toolbar PR of the page has very little to do with where it ranks. Also, how do you know that the site has 1 link (the link: operator doesn't work)? Perhaps the site is new and while Google figure out where it should be placed, it has a temporary position.
PR does not mean you will get a better position. There are websites out there that have a PR 5 off just one backlink. Your on-site and off-site optimization affect how Google ranks you. Your domain age and relevance also play small factors. I would love to have the #1 position for the word "Wholesale Distributor" and that website has a PR of 0.
I searched on google link:URL I now the site had been on page 2 of Google for the keyword for 2 months and when you clicked on it, it displayed, this account suspended! So I guess, they were getting their site ready, launched it and now Google has given it a temporary spot.
Search Yahoo for linkdomain:http://www.domain.com. Google gives you about 5% of the websites backlinks for privacy reasons. Maybe even to protect themselves from a lawsuit.
