Growth - ok. But at what price?

From what I've seen in the past, Google has done this little trick on and off in certain niches. One day there will be ads at the top and another day there won't be. This time around, however, I've noticed that two different niches I'm interested in suddenly had ads at the top at the same time. Could just be a coincidence, of course. And maybe it won't last long, but neither of these niches has had ads at the top before now for as long as I've been following them (one niche I've followed for 10 years). I'm just wondering if it will be a permanent move. If it's permanent, or if it becomes more common, I think it will hurt Google in the long run.

Of course they don't have to worry about things for quite a while. They don't really have much competition at the moment. Yahoo is famous for screwing up anything good they have going, and MSN has a long way to go.
