    Everyday millions of pages are being added ..how can a human edited search engine update itself daily ..sounds impossible.

    I really hope the Google won't be .... up by WIKI ! Why ? Because google represent the Democracy and the freedom of the internet... WIKI what represent?! a crapy website were people are removing each others links and content?!

    A wiki-ish directory might compete with dmoz or yahoo dir but never with a true search engine. The mass of pages in their db is too much for any team of editors to ever tackle.

    If you want to talk about the downfall, check out meta-search engines like jux2.com These guys provide much better results but they rely on google, msn, etc to provide their results. Might be a vicious circle of dependency.

    search engines provide content on a whole other level of detail than wiki, with a small amount of editors, if anything maybe you can say social sites can grow to googles size, think of user search engine contribution on the scale of myspace.

    Yeah, it would be good to have another search engine, but human built and edited. I hope that it doesn't turn out like the failure Dmoz has become.

    Yep, I agree. A human edited search engine would rock. However, it would take an enormous amount of resources and the sites update speed would be very slow.
