I've read a bit about Google cracking down on paid links, and them actually hurting your site. Does this end up effecting directories that offer paid links? The reason I ask is that most of my directory submissions are on sites that offer free and paid options. The whole point of submitting to directories for me is for the link that Google will eventually find. So, if Google is against paid links ( and therefore possibly a lot of directory sites ), then I can't see much of a reason to submit to any directory that has a paid option. Thanks.
funny how webmasters fear G, they are just another site, another service etc, they are not god. You own your web space, you own your domain. You do what ever the f%$% you want with it, nobody has to tell you what to do with it. What is the worst that will happen, bann you from their search results. FINE, my se traffic is only 5% (from all search engines), there are hundreds of ways of promoting your sites. So PLEASE PEOPLE. stop thinking that they are God. THEY ARE NOT.
Most directories don't allow you to buy placement, well atleast not respectable ones. The fee is for quick review of your site to possiblily be added. As with Yahoo! Directory, the $299.00 fee is a fast review fee and doesn't mean you'll get accepted. I know of quite of few sites that paid for this and didn't get added, what a bummer. Either way text links manipluate the search results and pagerank via Google, it's their search engine and their rules, if you want traffic from Google follow the rules, plain and simple.
i think the google vs. directory issue is overhyped. One of the main things wasnt people that submitted to directories,it was directory owners buying links all over the place to gain page rank,am i right?
Correct. +REP I hardly see anyone answer this question correctly, the fact they "bought" their pagerank actually means they manipulated search results and pagerank which is cheating. Good answer.
How does it work if the directory has no PR to be accused of selling in the first place? what does google penalise them on then?
I was wondering about what Google thought of the Yahoo directory! I paid the $299 and so far it has not done any wonders for my site. I was sort of wondering when Google would start the $299 BS. To the OP, good thread, I was wondering the same thing.
In theory we believe they do the following.... a) Remove the sites ability to pass on pagerank. b) Lower the actual visible pagerank c) Lower the SERPs for that specific site.
Yahoo's directory fee is just for quick review of your site within 7-days. This isn't payment to get added to the directory, some sites pay the $299 and get denied or not approved.
How can you remove a sites ability to pass pagerank when it had no visible PR in the first place? How can you lower the visible PR on a site that had no visible PR? Do you believe that answer C. still applies to the above? if so, do explain, and will that be algo lowered serps, or manual? do they really have that time to monitor sites individually? are algo's not in place for that? as i say can C. really apply to the no PR question.
They might of had a pagerank at the next update but wasn't updated or was removed as a penalty. Remember, this all started during the last update. I basicly answered this in the first question I believe Yes, in my theory of belief I think they might of penalized the SERP phrase\keyword they were using for their text link's anchor text. Since they were technically manipulating the search results with that link it should as well get penalized. How they monitor and do the stuff I have really no idea, but with 19,000+ employee's, massive advanced technology & almost endless income stream I'm sure they could figure something out
Still a very funny thread, so everybody is so scared of PR, SERPS etc etc etc. All of this just BS. Plain and simple, just think logically. If you make a site about "Web Hosting". It will almost be impossible to make it rank, why. Here is why: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=allintitle:web+hosting Thats 8 million sites using the same term. Google will simply do its best job to provide the search users with the best possible result. Now I can rank #1 or #2 in Google for other terms in less than a WEEK, without buying links, without, any work. How: Well for example, I know that there are a lot of people wanting to make money on DP right? I can write an article about this, and use the keywords on the title: "make money on DP". And I can guarantee that I will rank high within a few days... How do I know this? First look at this results: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=allintitle:make+money+on+dp (yes ranking for this term will get you traffic) No one has this on their title: NO COMPETITION "And yes I have done it, and I do this every day, and yes it works" ..... Google is just another search engine...... They simply try to provide the users with the best results. If you want to rank high, do your research, find out what people want, if there is less than 1000 sites with the same title WRITE AN ARTICLE ABOUT IT. And you will rank for this term everywhere..... So guys stop thinking about the "RULES", JUST WRITE GOOD CONTENT.
But what is the penalisation for, if they had no PR, they cant sell what they couldn't see. I dont think you have read my first question properly, your answer makes no sense, how can you lower something that wasn't visibly there to be lowered? it doesn't make sense what your saying. I cant demolish a house that hasn't visibly been built yet. A lot of webmasters seem to have their own theories, theories they know they wont find the answers to, so attempt to appear intelligent, and of some sort of special knowledge, i believe you know as much as i know on the topic, zero, zero answers or proof, i notice people dig themselves into confused holes when talking on this subject. So far your saying they remove visible pr, visible pr wasn't there for some to start with, theres no universal, all in one answer for this, and it definately isn't only about directories, paid links or what some believe. A lot of self confessed know it all's, confused as the rest of us.
via trends.google.com - - - - - Your terms - make money on DP - do not have enough search volume to show graphs I'm not even going to debate your reply, it not in one section mentions this is your opinion or theory, you directly assume you are right and we are wrong. As you can see above, your keyword theory on that phrase gets almost NO searchs a month period.
+REP Great point. Thats why almost all my answers either use the word "theory" or "opinion", I never directly state to know the correct answer unless its been proven. We are missing bases on your questions vs my theory on the answer, which is understandable, its apples and oranges. We have to remember, it appears they only went after text link sellers directly, the buyers were hurt in-directly when they no longer recieved link juice from the site they were investing money in to gain pagerank.
Thanks great news ssandecki, less competition for me too. Google trends will nottell you 100% what results get traffic or not. I registered earnmoneyrecycling.com several weeks ago. Where am I. Look: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=earn+money+recycling If you look in Google trends it says that there is no traffic for this term right?? Well they are wrong, I am making GOOD money off of this site, I get around 50 uniques a day, just from this term. PR0 Backlinks, a few "I think" So when I post I DO NOT ASSUME. I Test first - MOST PEOPLE DON'T And yes, I have around 300 sites like that one. And YES I make good $$ And NO I do not fear ANY SITE. Why??? Because I am paying for this domain, for hosting and content.
Do they offer a slow review for free? I have a couple more sites that I would be more than happy to wait for months if the price was....FREE. I honestly think their "Yahoo Local" has done more for my site and it carries a price tag of FREE!
I hear these type of stories all the time, its not uncommon. If this method of yours worked you wouldn't be on a public community forum with thousands of webmasters looking for new ways to make revenue, you would of just sold your idea out.
