Did Google's Chrome browser just become the globe's most popular? That's what StatCounter is reporting. It says Chrome topped Internet Explorer 8 in the last week of November, when Chrome took 23.6% of the global market and IE8 took 23.5%. Of course, if you combine all of the versions of Internet Explorer, it's still the browser champ. And in the United States, Internet Explorer is still on top, with 27% of the market. So what's driving the growth? Aodhan Cullen, chief executive of StatCounter, says businesses as well as consumers are adopting Chrome. Microsoft, which includes Internet Explorer with its Windows operating system, used to have a lock on the browser market. Google didn't even enter the market until 2008. But Chrome recently surpassed Mozilla Foundation's Firefox browser, which it used to support. Firefox launched in 2004 and drove innovation in the market, which was dominated by Internet Explorer since IE overtook Netscape's browser in the late 1990s. Google CEO Larry Page was always a proponent of Google's getting into the browser market. Google began to build a browser in 2006, concerned that existing browsers were not good enough to support its online services or might lead users away from its search engine. (Microsoft uses Internet Explorer to send users to its own Bing search engine.)
I recently started using Chrome and love it. Faster, easier way cooler. One thing I have noticed is if you simply close a window using the "x" in the top right corner while you are signed into a forum or such, you sometimes have to close Chrome all together before you can login again. Other than that, it rocks in my book.
I have noticed that current version of Chrome is quite resource hungry. Anybody too experienced the same?
I had been using chrome for several weeks and was loving it. Then, all of a sudden chrome started saying this webpage has timed out and could not be displayed. It said that it had lost internet connection. So I started up IE and that worked fine. After re-installing chrome it still could nt display websites and IE could. So now I am using IE even though I like chrome much better. Has this happened to anybody else and is there any way to fix it?
Agree with you Mithuasha. I still like Mozilla Firefox's simplicity. Google Chrome has this 'skin' which my sister loves but I find annoying. Firefox is even faster than chrome, so between internet explorer and chrome I wont choose any.
Since IE 9 is the current version it's no wonder IE8 falls behind. I'm using FF right now but I usually have a chrome window up for hulu or whatever.
I was a hardcore Firefox user up until version 4. Was not a fan of the font rendering (which still hasn't been fixed) so I gave Chrome a try. It was rough leaving some of my favorite addons behind but Chrome has started to catch up in that department. Everyone once and awhile I'll try to go back to FF but lose patience after about an hour.
Its about time. Chrome is the best browser for now, i use to like Mozilla until it started hanging my system and slowing down or sometimes don't even open the site i want.
