Hello, How do you tell the date of the cached image of your website in Google. I used to perform a search in the Google search window for my website and the date would appear at the end of the listing for my website. Now the SERP doesn't display the date any longer. Thanks
To my knowledge the cache date has never appeared in the Google record. What a lot of webmaster do is put a "last updated" time and date entry on their web page so that they can see which page is actually in the cache. Then if you check daily you can figure out when it was cached and how long it took Google to find it. BTW I wish Google would put a "last cached on _____ " date on their record. It would be very convenient.
::: How To Know When Google Last Updated Your Page ::: Hi Harold, While it doesn't appear that Google will be adding a date to their cached pages any time soon and even if they did you will still want to track your page's update dates and track Googlebot's visits. The following is a simple way to add some code to your page and track this information. Step-By-Step Instructions (For PHP Pages Only) 1.) Change your homepage from index.html to index.php if it is not already a PHP page. 2.) Add the following code to your page. This code will add the date. 3.) Add the following code to your page. This code will send you an eMail to notify you each time that Googlebot has visited your page. 4.) Now, you will need to be reminded to check your page's cache to check it for updates. There are many options that you could implement here, but we'll give you a few that we like best. A.) Use a reminder program to launch your page's cache every day. Any such desktop utility will do, but if you are looking for something free then we suggest Kana Reminder. Once your reminder program is installed, just add your cached page URL < http://216.239.57.104/search?q=cache:www.domain.com - Replace domain.com with your domain name. > and set the reminder program to launch (the reminder program will automatically launch your browser so you can view your cached page) the page once a day to check for an update. B.) Use a Web-based service to alert you each time your page updates. Any such service will do, but if you are looking for something free then we suggest Blogarithm. Then to give you an idea of how well this system works, we'll show you the following. The first line is the date found in the cached page and the second line is what was eMailed to us when Googlebot visited. Do you notice that the times are EXACTLY the SAME? This means that the moment Googlebot arrived on our page, we were sent an eMail and then at the exact moment, Googlebot took its "snapshot" of our page which is then used to update its database. Since today is July 10, 2004 you notice that our page is 8 days fresh. You will also notice that our recent updates have been ... 10 days apart -- From June 22 to July2 14 days apart -- From June 8 to June 22 15 days apart -- From May 24 to June 8 ... And it will encourage you to know that this page is currently a PageRank3 homepage with very little content. Just 4k and only 96 words (588 characters) of visible content. If you change a page to a PHP extension, and modify it as instructed, can you still edit is as normal in Frontpage?
Welcome to the forum Sharon and Roy. Did you get tired of the abuse on the HighRanking forum? BTW that last response sets and all time record for brevity for you two
I can confirm this. I've never been able to see the cache date when I search using the URL for my site. However, I have a unique search term, resalebroker, and when I enter just that term in google it does show the cache date for my site.
Why dont you simply but the date you've last updated your website in comments in the code? That way you can find out what the date is the cache relates to.
Geez! I think I said that in post #2 on this thread. Shawn, is there a penalty on this forum for plagiarism?
Hi Bob, Thank you for the warm welcome and it's good to see you here! Hmmm? Funny you should make such a comment. Apparently, we have different views about the HR forum. We'd be most interested to hear your view about how you "see" us being treated over there. BTW, the HR forum is still on our active list of forums and we chime in when we have the time. Yep, you noticed that huh? You're right, that has to be a record for sure. LOL Your Friends, Sharon and Roy Montero
Hi Mushroom, Thank you for your warm welcome and for your very nice compliment, we certainly appreciate it! We know we're going to love it here as the atmosphere is quite friendly indeed. Your Friends, Sharon and Roy Montero
Awww dang it! Ya mean we could have ended this thread clear back at the second post? I personally do not bother doing anything at all. Stats show Google on my sites daily and if I make a change on a page they update the cache rapidly - usually within 24 hours.
