I never understood why Google has such a weird way of showing backlinks. Being the top engine today, I'd expect it to be the most accurate. It really sucks having to wait one or 2 months before backlinks show up, since other engines only take a day to show them. I got a great deal on a link, the site has thousands of pages, and my link is on every one. I am doing a daily check at Marketleap, and my backlinks are skyrocketing. 3 days ago I had 4k backlinks, yesterday I had 5k, today I have 6k... I hope at least Google notice them as a great related, non-reciprocal link and finally gives me the PR boost I have been waiting for over 6 months.
Mainly because Google is more about returning relevant results to users than helping (even in a small way) SEO/webmasters "beat the system".
Well... that relevant results issues could lead to a long discussion, since Google returns 8 spam results for each search I do. However, sticking to the backlinks issue, it is really screwed up at Google. It only shows a small % of the backlinks I have, and when I look at them, they are only from forums and similar sites. Yahoo does a much nicer work, showing all the nice theme-related links I have managed to get thanks to many sleepeless nights.
MSN brings me 3% of my traffic, I really couldn't care less about it. Yahoo brings me 13%, so Google is still the king. It is just frustrating having to wait so long before having any results.
What Google displays publicly with the link: command really will have no bearing on your incoming traffic. When they update it publicly, the links (even the low PR ones that it never reports) have long been taken into account for the ranking algorithms. Yahoo is what I use for finding links... they are nice because they have both a link: and linkdomain: function.
Results 1 - 10 of about 3,262 containing link:http://www.seo-dev.co.uk (TechPreview) Now that is a surprise... I can only see the first 50 or so though... Do you think that's the Coop Shawn...
Never heard of the link: command at Yahoo! I always used linkdomain, what does the plain link: command do? How do you phrase it? I just get a "no results found" when I use it
try this tool: wemarketpages.com/tools/ttg.htm or webuildpages.com/tools/internet-marketing-google.htm . It gives a better BL estimate than the current outdated google link: command.
The link: and linkdomain: require different urls to be put in. Link: requires http://www.domain.com Linkdomain: requires www.domain.com (without the http).
wemarketpages.com/tools/ttg.htm or webuildpages.com/tools/internet-marketing-google.htm I could not get this to come up. Am I doing something wrong?? Oops!!! My BAD!!! I didn't realized there were two links there. Sorry, I got it now
