Is it really true? Is Google really coming out with its own Operating System? Have heard people talk about it in some forums, but if that's true, it should have been in the mainstream media. Anyone know any facts about a Google OS?
Google chicken fries and google noodles are next on the line. Yeah Google is marching ahead strongly but it will no way competitive to Microsoft OS. Its more about trust and compatibility than anything else. May be I shall try it as secondary OS but nothing more.
I hope i will use it then the crap Windows .... But when i see the news official will belive this untill then only speculations
I think it will take alot for Google to make a stranglehold on the operating system world. Take a look at Apple? they have been doing all they can to put a huge dent into the desktop world, and after all the clever Apple commercial spots, this is the end result... Looking at my counter results, I see... 85% Using A Windows Operating System
Google core competencies is in the Search engine whereas Microsoft core competencies are in the desktop and server OS areas. For Google to venture out against an area which is Microsoft core competencies require tremendous amount of money and efforts. I seriously doubt that they will do so. Both of them are competing not in their own core competencies but in the future where digital and multimedia merge. Each are fighting for a place in this new turf. That's the reason why you see that they seem to be competing in everything, but in actual fact, the future is what they are competing for in the present.
Thats rightly said, wisdomtool. Google's core competence does not lie in the OS area. And beating MS in their own game will be an uphill task
But both are trying to position themselves strategically for the next digital revolution, I guess it is a winner take all situation so you can see them at each other's throat.....
Google is not looking to do a desktop per say as we know it. They are moving forward in WebOS. Future idea is to allow all your data to sit in a cloud, and just boot-up your new PC then connect via the internet to a web based OS, without storing operating system on your computer. We have already seen many applications from Gmail, Maps, Google accounts for Google ScrapeBook, and stuff like http://www.ajaxwrite.com which is a web based MS word. This is where I see Google heading at its inline with some of the many products they already developed, and from a users standpoint it beats having to install old programs each time you replace a PC. However we are a long ways off from seeing this in everyday life.
Something better? Dream on mate. A new start up with no market penetration will have no compatable software and very little driver support. Why do you think Microsoft is still #1?
Yeap this is exactly what they think will happen in the future, and Microsoft knows that and is trying to preempt that. Whoever has this pie will also have the entire digital TV etc under their hands.
