Ok. I'm ending this, unless I see some real content coming out your end. Not because I'm embarassed or ignorant, or anything like that. I'm ending it because you're just not reading what I'm saying.
I don't care how respected you are in any community wherever. Most of the SEO gurus are just Matt Cutts puppets. The whitehat SEO industry is absolutely plagued by a lack of real innovation or thought(with a few exceptions).
And you know my side of the story. The update was targeted at people who bought links. One of the major factors they used to decide this was incoming, high PR links, with the SAME link text. Sites caught in the cross fire were sites that brand their software with a link(phpbb), and places frequently referred to by a single name(news outlets).

Haha that is funny... not sure where your stats came from but they are worth laughing it.The seo industry is plagued by people like you not a lack of innovation, a lack of brains. Sorry I had to be honest!

Again your theory doesn't add up. Your theory has too many holes... for one most successful seo who buy links don't buy links for only one keyword. You obviously are green in this area. And secondly any site which ranks for phrases like "seo", "news" etc are getting thousands of random links a day... your theory wouldn't work with them and yet they got "penalized" as well(actually a PR drop is not a penalization but whatever) -

And if as you say this was targeted at link buyers and Google zapped them all then it would be stupid to think they wouldn't have actually penalized them... Google is rough on sites they catch doing it and they ban then... why would a exception be made here? Your theory is leaking...

ALL of my sites have dropped in PR. :(

When did this update happen?

Oh and for those who feel that the update targetted paid links...

None of my sites have EVER had a paid backlink!!

I had one of my sites drop from pr4 to pr2, and another of my sites drop from pr3 to pr2. The backlinks for all these sites remain the same as they have been for months.

However, I do have several new sites that I have put up just this year, all of them were at pr0 of course when I registered them, and after this update I find that some of them are pr1 and some are pr2.

The only problem is that my pr4 site was my highest ranked site. Now I don't have anything over a pr2 :(

But I agree with a previous commenter that PR is less important than hits and traffic.

Same with me. My directory went from a PR2 to a PR3 which is good in my book. I'd rather slowly move up in rank.

But PR does not matter to me, just as long as the traffic comes in daily, i'll be a happy camper.

I'm hoping there is still a little something left to this update, cus my site hasn't really changed and I have way more content and links than back in April. I noticed Google downloaded my site index 8hrs ago, so hopefully that's a sign that they are just starting to look at it - lol.

PR has been made so topic-specific that right now there may well be a dozen or so PR's for a same site.

Example, for a site with several subjects, like a forum, it may rank well for one thing but not appear at all for another.

So the PR you see there is probably just a weighed average or something like that.

So what's that got to do with anything? Well, really guys, it's been said over and over and I'll say it again : I see no changes in SERPs, at all, nothing, zilch, nada.... The PR you see on the toolbar means next to nothing....

All this discussion, including offenses and rudeness above...it leads nowhere.

My 6-year old site went from a PR4 (it was a 4 for years) to a PR2. I write articles tirelessly for that piece of crap.

I hate google--but their day will come, it just might take a while. Do any of you youngsters remember Compuserve? They were the leading online service during the dial-up era. They pissed people off and got smoked by AOL. Then AOL got boned.
