Well said. It's nothing personal guys, its just business. Anyway isn't converting traffic more important than PR unless you're in the business of selling PR links. :D

Well the latest PR update hasn't affected Google. They still have PR10. They must be doing something right. :D:D

My oldest site, been online since 2003, has thousands of pages and has just been downgraded to PR 2! It's all unique content written by me and I'm so disappointed and slightly insulted by Google right now. It was PR 6 at one time, then PR 5 and has been going up and down between 5 and 4 like a yoyo for the past 2 years or so, but it has never gone as low as 2!

You are absolutely certain about that? 100%?? I have tools to check where your backlinks are coming from and I have a good idea who accepts paid links and who doesn't.

I am only saying this because there are so many crying wolf these days.

How could I not be certain if I bought links or not, I'm not an idiot? What would be the point of "crying wolf", it's not like anyone on here can change anything?

Somehow don't think values will increase as the whole PR thing has become less predictable people will be more cautious about spending on links.

Hopefully link sales will start to focus on things that really matter - like traffic! :) (just my idle dream)

It's an interesting thought, and I wouldn't be surprised if some sites do market the now rarer higher page ranks with this in mind, i.e. making them more expensive - there are some pretty dull minded and predictable people out there.

What they should do, and may even do eventually, is not use Google PR to value sites (for whatever purpose) and use traffic stats instead, wherever it comes from.

Yes, if a lot of the big sites keep losing their PR - then we all know the value of pagerank is actually coming back.

By now we all know that Google is penalizing sites that sell PR ... oops, I meant links ... but it's wrong to assume that only sites that sold links will be affected. It's a PR domino effect; sites that bought PR will also be affected because the PR juice that they bought is now being greatly reduced; sites that have backlinks from those sites, whether its bought or not, will also be affected because of the subsequent drop in PR on the backlinking site! The end result will be a major reduction of PR, to the extent that PR might actually be worth something!

Google penalizes sites which sell PR because of the domino effect you speak about. They want to make the PR system work as meant and not been abused by the selling PR/links sites - that's why the sellers are now penalized. And that is fair.

Still, the question is whether those sites, which used to have high ranking because of the content they provided, will now continue to rank high in search results. If yes, the PR update works fine - people will stop buying links from these sites for increasing their PR, but for finding new customers for their sites (the nofollow idea put into practice by force).

Maybe now it will be content, which will impact the PR formula higher.

Well if everyone has less PR, PR becomes more valuably. It's like economics and scarcity.

From what I've seen, PR is likely to get more valuable. As mentioned before, there are some very big sites that are getting hammered by the Google penalty. That makes those sites less valuable and their competitors who maintained PR more valuable.

Yes, the sites which have kept their PR - most small sites generally
fall in this category, will see more value for their PR now.

    Hi guys

It will probably increase the value of high pr sites, but as more and more webmasters catch on, that pr is not the overiding factor of any website, hopefully will balance it out !
