This the first update my sites will be eligible for, almost got 100 backlinks for my forum.

Really hoping to achieve PR1 at least.

    Quite excited about this.

How will we know when it happens? just wait for people to announce their changes on here?

Its just an example I came up with in 10 seconds. If PR was well and truly the deciding factor influencing the ranking in the search engine then wouldn't that dp thread rank higher than my site? After all it has the same phrase and dp has a lot of backlinks and pr?

Ok here is another example for you, check the search results for the term "webmaster forum" the top three results are:

    ozzu.com : pr 7

    v7n.com/forums : pr 6

    webmasterworld.com : pr 8

Now how did this happen? Google should rank the PR8 site higher than others, right?

Read better what i write. I just tried to point out that PR is ONE of the 100s as you say, but you can't come and just say PR is useless. And apart that, you still have not answered my question.

p.s. i have seen PR0 sites to outshine sites with higher PR in serps, but have you ever take time to analyze why that happens? And how much time would the higher PR site need to get back in his place if he just improved his onsite and insite seo?

If both the sites were tied on rest of the aspects then obviously page rank would make an impact, but that would also be true for the quality of the content, seo, back links, domain age and countless factors.

I don’t mean to say that PR is useless, but saying PR is a reflection of sites success is a perception we can certainly do without! And also these countless “gut feeling” PR is coming threads.

I wasn't saying that PR is a reflection of site's success, well at least not nowadays when you can easily manage to raise your PR within few months if you have some bucks in your pocket.

What i was trying to point out is that PR is not actually as useless as many describe it here on DP.

Yogesh- I am sorry -you guys still have those false beliefs.
The Google webmaster Centre has recently been updated and they have always explained how they rank websites --SERPs & PR. ( Please read the quote from Google Guidelines).

All regular readers at Matt Cuts blog knows that -- Google has changed its algo.
While previously -- backlinks/SERPs/PR/Indexed pages were updated after a good interval --now it is a continuous process.

That is why all those guys who depend on SERPs and AdSense are crying foul these days everywhere on the net for not finding their sites as before.

It is true that there was a time when PR lost its significane--but Google's algo is a contradict in itself and Webmasters used this to its advantage by optimizing their sites through Anchor Words . From the SERPs trend we have been seeing over the last 7/8 weeks --it seems they are trying out a lot of combinations.

But one thing is very clear -- Google is hell bent on restoring the sanctity of PR again --as one can see it is putting even the inconsequential sub-pages of high PR authority sites on top.

I wonder why so many people do not give importance to PR whereas low PR (PR3 or less) sites are less than 10% in top 50 results.
