My PR5 blog went down to PR4 and confirmed by DigPageRank.com...is there something going on here?

You're still missing my point though, and this last bit shows it. "Approaching zero" in this equation is only valid if you could be considered to be "approaching infinity". In a finite system this doesn't happen. It doesn't matter how "big" the numbers seem in your head, it's still not a meaningful concept.

1,000,000,000,000,000 web pages is still not approaching infinity. It's just really, really, really big.

I have a hunch that Google is going to let the PR die off OR they will change it dramatically in the future.

It's the reason for many of "problems" that Google is trying to prevent; link exchanges, text link sales, and such.

I think Google initially thought that it could be a good way for average Joe Schmo visitor to gage the viability and value of a site. It was to be Joe S's way of trusting that the site won't disappear in a week if they had a high rank.

The meaningful point is one you've already made, Sutocu, which is that, all things being equal, PR for an individual page will change as more pages are added to Google's index or as PR for other pages changes.

Don't expect vandermar to acknowledge this, though. Just accept that you, I, everyone else, and even vandermar himself knows it.

Someone (other than Google) should create a SERP rank method. Here's my thread on it.

I want to know your thoughts.

I can confirm the update. My PR7 directory's PR dropped to PR6 :( Subpages still show N/A though.

Again a high PR site that drops a step. Has there been a confirmed site with a higher PR than before?

Did you guys not see the press release that PR is now manually updated for all domains. Google hired 2500 people in a non-disclosed location to manually inspect every website for paid links. A human has to inspect the site and the links and then will manually put a PR value into your toolbar. In case of doubt they will try to buy a link from that website and then dump it down accordingly and remove it from the index.

The manual PR update process will replace the existing PR system. Only one PR update is going to happen every 12 months.

    Christoph

PS: And even if I put in writing here that this is a joke I am sure we will find someone who believes my above statement and panics. :D

I also have a site dropped from PR5 to PR4 today. I thought it would go up, and I'm amazed it would fall!
Of those seeing changes, is anyone seeing increases, or just drops so far?

I remember the other updates in the past, this happened then too. First, high PR sites dropped to a lower PR, and then PRs got updated one more time and mostly turned into higher or neutral (got it's previous PR).
