You should never depend on the reported Google backlinks, since that is just a small sample of all backlinks, and not even up to date. In short, use backlinks reported by another source, if you need to analyze the backlinks of a site. Yahoo! backlinks are a better indication, at least.

Just wondering, has there been any sort of official announcement on this?
Or even a whisper from someone who works with google or something.

The only backlinks count from google that I place any stock in is the number of backlinks reported in the sitemaps tool. I list all my sites in the sitemaps tool, even those that I don'ty have sitemaps for. You still get some good information without a sitemap.

Are you talking about search command "site:"
or the webmaster tools section in your google account?
1st will only show a sample sites linking to you
    2nd all of them
I my self use yahoo to see all the links, works great :D

Yes, it was a PR9. It is showing 8 elsewhere, except on nifrou's tool. There, it shows some d/c's as 9. Nifrou has posted similar images for a url I am watching quite closely; checking within moments of his post, and with other tools, it was obvious that what he was posting was false.
Yes, I can see that your tool is showing the 9. I cannot reproduce those results elsewhere. I will stop short of saying you manipulated your tool for this one url, but perhaps you need to look into bugs... I do not trust your tool when a url shows something different, via more established tools built by trusted individuals.

Do you realize that it shows PR8 without the www, and there are no canonical issues with the domain? There is no way the site should show a 9 anywhere...

Oh bullcrap. I have a personal tool that allows me to check specific datacenters one at a time if I want, his values are completely made up. You know it as well as I do. Quit pretending to be nice to him, he doesn't deserve it. :p

    Okay.

Nifrou, as long as your grammar and spelling are horrendous, no one will trust the tool. Without that, it screams unprofessional.

Damn, can't do it. Pointing out how to improve the site and perhaps improve trust is a nice thing to do...

    Gee, thanks Mom. :D

During a PR update a lot of people experience weird PR drops until they properly propegate. Don't worry about it. Before the update usually backlinks drop, etc.
