I have to disagree with that.

Visitors have to remain on your site in order to see a range of ads - and that will increase the likelihood that they will see an ad that interests them.

You also want visitors to return on another day - that way they get a chance to see more of the ads displayed on your site.

Frankly, the notion that you might make more money by creating a "slightly crappy" site astounds me.

But WTF use is a site where you WANT a visitor to click away on an Adsense advert, unless it is a useless MFA scumbag waste of space

Or am I missing something - please explain :)

A good reliable way to estimate if there's a pagerank change imminent is to see if there are lots of threads on new pagerank in the forums here....oh hold on - there's threads like that all day every day all year round!

Another good way is to assemble:

    1. 3 carrots,

    2. a turnip

    3. and a bag of gravel/stones.

If all three of #1 fall on #3 you are left with a turnip, and a PR between #0 and #10

You don't have to wait for each of the pages to load as you read "War and Peace", so that might actually be faster to get through.

I made a site not to long ago, real estate word press.. template didn't work in IE, I don't use IE man!

Well, lesson 1 in cross browser checking, the site got about 10 visitors a day, and 7-8 add clicks :p so it does work.. or at least it did in this example ;)

    but..

I have to agree with Minstrel.. have ya heard of CPM?

Don't build junk... unless like me.. you just don't know how to make anything better :O hehe

I agree with Minstrel 100% in reply #5930. Advertising on websites is no different than advertising on any other medium.

There's a reason why Coke or Pepsi don't pay big bucks for advertising on a crummy show like Big Brother 8. If nobody is watching that crappy TV show week after week, there's little chance they're going to tune in to the commercials after the first showing...

Though I believe that on crummy sites, you'll get a higher clickthrough rate on your ads. The downside is you'll get a much higher bounce rate, no repeat traffic and little growth.

Heh... yes it does. When you browse each page of this thread, you have to wait a second or two for the new page and the graphics to load. When reading a book* you don't have to wait for the pages to load, so it's faster. :p

    -Michael

    * books are antiquated contraptions made out of paper that have all these words written in them. Us old folk like to read them. That "War and Peace" that Valley mentioned... it's one of those book thingies.

what you are saying is that you want them to stay on your site long enough to become more interested in an ad than your content. isn't that a failure of content? what kind of content do you have if your content is less interesting than automatically served google ads? crappy content is what.

and no, i do not want the same visitors clicking on ads. you get too much of that, googsy stops counting the clicks.

yah well. we aim to astound.

whoa bubba. advertising on the web is fundamentally way way different. you do not try to create a brand using adwords.

um... so you do NOT want your visitors to click on your adverts? what would be the point of running adverts if you do not want people to click on them? that's the whole point laddie, you want people to click on adverts, because that's how you bring home the bacon.
