Just to summarize this latest page rank update :

    1) Backlinks to all sites where updated around a month ago in google.
    2) A select few websites have had PR update a few weeks ago. A lot of new sites went from PR-1 to PR0. Sum other sites had a small increase or decrease in PR and some sites went down to PR0.
    3) Nothing has since happened with the PR update for at least 2 weeks (so I believe, not noticed anyone mention any changes recently).

So basically we havent had a major PR update so far. Maybe google have been testing a new ranking system on the select sites mentioned above in number 3. Then probably now, they are checking these sites and ammending the new ranking system. Hopefully they will roll out to all sites soon.

In my opinion, they have messed up with their new system, I beleive this because I noticed the site icanhascheezburger.com went from a PR6 down to a PR3 a few weeks ago. This site has tons of excellent backlinks including lots of natural PR8's, PR'7 etc... Maybe these links have now been discounted in their new ranking system because a lot of them are not related to the same site subject. Maybe this is a taste of the new PR ranks everyone will get soon!!! Think google are only going to count on-topic related links from now on!! Any none related links will probably be discounted.

The links that are not related to a website will be very difficult to indentify!

How do you come to the conclusion that it is impossible???? Google already give related backlinks a higher weight. Therefore they can already work out which links are related or not. All websites are categorised by google anyway.

It's not impossible to find obviously related sites, but it is impossible to say for definite that a site is NOT related and ignore it.

It is possible for Google robots to appreciate links from OBVIOUSLY non-related sites.

I guess, but it's not likely that they would do that. They might discount links from obvious suspicious sources, like those pages created specifically for ref backs etc, but I doubt they would discount links from millions of forums and blogs where people have linked to stuff they like, apart from where they've used no follow of course.

Its a challenge for them for sure, take a women's lifestyle site for example, how many unrelated links would that have going out... car insurance, computer repairs, cheap washing machines... you get the idea...

Very hard for Google to use related subjects as a measure for link importance...

I don't think they would discount the links ...... What I think google will do is devalue non-related links ....i.e. Instead of giving a link 10 points, it may only receive 3 points etc.....

    Cheers ...
    Gerald.

Is it related, is it paid...link...this would be hard to make it fair. Anyway, from a searcher viewpoint it's important to get related SERPs. No algorhythm can provide SERP results which would be always relevant for a searcher. Some manual ranking of first 10 sites might be needed.

Why are you guys going off topic all the time? Why not just let this thread stay as it is till we really see an update? If you wanna discuss SERPs, paid links or whatever, simply open another thread and discuss it there.

hitboy, out of interest, how much have you made from the revenue sharing on this thread? I never would have believed it would last 242 pages.

I can think of several reasons, let me count the possibilities:
    • Some members have ADD and can't focus on one subject.
    • Irrational exuberance countered by deep depression is hitting DP.
    • People are bored silly waiting for the update.
    Take your pick!

They go off topic because one person usually responds to another's post but then their reply gets replied to and then turns in to a discussion. It's how forums work ;) It's not like people are talking about pirate ships, they're talking about PR/SEO related things.
