I was gonna be quit, but I have to ask. What is PR and what does it do. When you get more, you get more traffic? How do you get it? I gotta go somewhere in a minute and this thread has like almost 200 pages, so I ain't gonna read til someone tell me why I should. I got 2 sites that get no respect from Google. And how you guys know when Google does updating? Does Matt tell one of you guys in private or something?
For real, I wanna learn, but the more I read this, the less I know :(

From my observation, I have seen PR update applied on many new domains, especailly domains that registered in April - Jul. This is only my own opinion please do not use as any indication. :D

Nothing here. I went from n/a to 0 but I don't consider that an update because I know that I should be around a pr of atleast 4.

    GoodBye Google PageRank ? ? ?

    Has anyone read this article????

There is currently a debate going on right now about Google removing the PageRank score from the Google Toolbar.

    Why?

    * Toolbar PageRank numbers can be 3 months out of date or more.
    * Some “PR Updates” have been buggy enough to seriously misrepresent a page’s real PR.
    * Matt Cutts has blogged that PR Updates are considered pretty much a non-event around Google.
    * PageRank has started a flawed econonmy of link building and trading in an effort to raise or distribute these scores.

I've got a pile of pages showing PR0 (white) in the toolbar, looks like Google is correcting the Gray PR issue that occured last update.

My guess is they are trying to correct this first, because just rolling out the update with millions of gray PR pages would result in incorrect data.

Either way, i would rather they take their time because last export was pretty bad.

Mmmm.. there's some monkey business going on ... several of my sites have gone from 4 to n/a/grayed out... and a PR1 jumped to PR 3....

Hope they finish this data update without screwing all of our PR

    Wow thats nuts.

as far as i'm concerned - they can remove it - so long as they leave it in the pr checking sites and the searchstatus addon for firefox.

I don't think that is completely true; while PR is calculated as an ongoing function, it seems that the 30 days between snapshot and TBPR export is the time PR is recalculated completely; the data is stale when exported, but it gives a more accurate value than the additive ongoing calculations. I also think these pre-updates are canonical updates, intended to reduce mistakes... folks talking about 301's getting 0'd, domains recently purchased showing PR it could not have (most parking pages produce 302 status codes, and pick up PR that way) only reinforce my belief.
See this thread for more thoughts on these pre-updates.
I first saw and posted about it in 2005... but it got worse in 2006 (see http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=673977&postcount=19 ). Thing was, the site acted as though the high PR page was the homepage - more frequent crawls, etc. so it seems it was nothing more than a visible TBPR issue.

I wondered then and now if they stopped short of calculations (within a site), causing the higher inner page PR...

I don't know why "we" care so much about these green lines. PR has been updating (all the time...) since 2000 - but we only see changes every few months. Even if you get from 0 - PR6 you won't see any better "search engine result" tomorrow morning.

So, what's the point? Oh... we can also sell links

    What is Page Rank?

It's an disease, and highly contagious for the looks of it.

The symptoms are pretty much evident on this thread, cold sweats, paranoia, sleep disorders, and so on.
